Blackrock Depths Walkthrough, Part 1

ALTHOUGH YOU CAN HAVE UP TO NINE QUESTS for Blackrock Depths at this point, you don’t have to finish all of them on your first run. The immediate goal is to complete at least five quests, possibly as many as seven, depending on how long your group wants to stay.

The must-completes on your first trip are “Marshal Windsor,” “Kharan Mighthammer” and “Dark Iron Legacy,” and you’ll also want to do “Incendius!” and “Heart of the Mountain” while you’re here. Along the way, you’ll get drops for “The Good Stuff,” but it may take more than one run before you finish it.

1. Your run starts at the Detention Block, which has a maze of tunnels spread out in front of you. Most of the Block is made up of two large loops; it can be a little disorienting at first, so here’s an image to help it out.

Basically, looking at the mini-map, paths 1 and 3 are opposite ends of the same loop, as are 4 and 5. (6 leads up to the Shadowforge Lock, and E leads back to the instance entrance). Got it?

Entering the main room, you’ll want to head for opening #3, which is the quickest route to Marshal Windsor and Kharan Mighthammer. If no one in your group has the Prison Key, you’ll have to clear to the midpoint of this loop, where High Interrogator Gerstahn drops the key you need. Upon opening the cells, Mighthammer gives you “The Bearer of Bad News,” while Windsor gives “Abandoned Hope.” 2. Once you’ve spoken to Windsor and Mighthammer, return to the central detention block area. Now you’re going through opening #4, where you’ll immediately find an opening that leads to the Ring of the Law. Once the group is in, the gate shuts behind you and an event starts with several waves of mobs to fight. (The fights are easy.) After the event, take the exit to the west and hang a hard U-turn right and up into the spectator area. The spectators turn yellow (neutral) when you beat the Ring of the Law event, so just don’t talk to them and you’ll be fine.

3. On the far side of the spectator area, go down the ramp and clear to the right, where you’ll find the statue of Franclorn Forgewright. This is where you’ll eventually get the Shadowforge Key for “Dark Iron Legacy,” but you’ve got a little more work to do first.

4. Turn around and clear your way across the bridge into The Domicile. Make a sharp left and clear to the center of Shadowforge City. There are a few options as to what to do next: you can jump down and do “Incendius!,” go into the Vault for “Heart of the Mountain,” or you can head into the Hall of Crafting and slay Fineous Darkvire for “Dark Iron Legacy.” We’ll start with the easiest first: “Incendius!”

5. Jump down (as a group) onto the two fireguards and kill them. Wait for Incendius to path around and attack. He’s an easy kill as long as no one allows themselves to get knocked into the lava (just pull him back to the hallway.) He drops some decent fire resistance bracers for random classes which can come in handy later while raiding Molten Core.

6. Exit Incendius’ area via the northeast into the Hall of Crafting. Patrolling this area is Chief Architect Fineous Darkvire, who drops Ironfel, the quest item you need to complete “Dark Iron Legacy.” Kill him and clear allllll the way up the ramps in the Hall of Crafting until you reemerge in the center of Shadowforge City, outside the Black Vault. Hey, you’ve already been here!

7. Before doing the Vault event, my recommendation is to backtrack to the statue of Franclorn Forgewright and turn in Ironfel for “Dark Iron Legacy” and the Shadowforge Key while everything is clear. This way, even if something goes wrong in the Vault, you know you’ve got the Key.

8. Return to the Black Vault. Hopefully by this time your group will have collected 12 Relic Coffer Keys. Clear the first few groups and start opening the coffers, each of which contains small batches of loot. When the final coffer is open, the four stone relics come to life and Watchman Doomgrip spawns in, who drops the final key needed to get the quest item for “Heart of the Mountain.”

9. With the event done, check out the portrait on the wall in the room before the Vault. When opened, this reveals a special named NPC that holds the key to the final safe. The NPC can be found in several locations throughout BRD, and is totally optional, not part of the quest.

10. If your group is up for it, you can now go after Bael’Gar to complete “A Taste of Flame.” The first route is to jump down to the same spot where you killed Incendius, and this time go southwest down the Dark Iron Highway until you reach Bael’Gar. The second option is to return to the instance entrance, go left through the locked gate (since you have the Shadowforge Key now), and make another left on the Dark Iron Highway to go straight to Bael’Gar.

Whichever way you go, the Dark Iron Highway is patrolled by many roving five-packs of elite dwarves, which can be tough to handle if your group doesn’t have good crowd control or too many low-level members. Sap and sheep all you can, and try not to get caught off guard by the many patrols.

11. With any luck, you’ve now collected enough Dark Iron Fanny Packs off the Dark Iron Dwarves to complete “The Good Stuff.” If not, you’ll be back again for round 2, and you’ll get more packs soon enough.

My House is a PvP Zone

My wife and I play a good amount of online games. Right now, that primarily means a lot of World of Warcraft. We’re currently dabbling in other games, but that’s all it really amounts to. WoW is clearly at the top of our gaming food chain.

We are also both ardent PvPers. It’s been that way as long as I can remember. This has had the effect of turning my house into an odd little social experiment. This ongoing, um, “scientific endeavor” has led to several revelations about the experience of PvP in general. On the off chance that this might help some MMO geek somewhere (or that my fellow gamers might find this mildly entertaining) I’ve listed the findings from our little social experiment.

Warning: There is just the tiniest, most wee little amount of cussing in this little article. Having said that, if you’re not 1) a construction worker, 2) a sailor or stevedore, or 3) a big fan of Quentin Tarantino movies, this little ditty may be ever so slightly offensive.

Anyway, without further ado, here is what we’ve learned. Among the several unintended consequences and repercussions of living in a PvP household, we’ve discovered the following phenomenon.

The Cuss-bot

You know how I know that my wife is PvPing? There’s a particular sound that comes from the living room. The sound varies somewhat, but it usually sounds something like this: “F*ck you, you STUPID overpowered f*cking warlock! I f*cking HATE you! If Blizzard didn’t give you f*cking EVERYTHING and you had to play with a normal class you wouldn’t be so f*cking cocky, you freaking dung-eating mutant!”

Fine products like this may assist you in your new-found cussing skills.

The Blamethrower

When things go wrong in our “cooperative” PvP sessions, we automatically blame each other. Finding ways to blame your partner (or anyone else that happens to be around) is, we’ve found, part of the joy that is PvP. The following exchange is typical:

Wife: “Damn warlock! Crap, I’m dotted! I NEED A HEAL!!!”

Me: “Where are you, baby…”

Wife: “Heal me! Crap, heal me!”

Me: “But did you go, sweetie-pie? You were right here a second ago…”

Wife: “HEAL HEAL HEAL HEAL!!!”

Me: “Um, I…um….I can’t find…”

Wife: “Oh, f*cking NEVER MIND. I’m dead. Thanks for being there for me.”

Mistaken Identity

This, we’ve found, is common enough to be cause the occasional household fight. Consider:

Me: “Here I am, guarding this Arathi Basin node all by myself….”

Wife: “This is gonna rock. With my new +stealth gear and new spec, they’ll never ever even know I’m here with you.”

Me: “Ok, here comes a pair of dwarves. A hunter and a pali, I think…”

Wife: “K, I’ll try to sap the pali. Then we’ll double-team the hunter and….wait, I don’t see…”

Me: “They’re hesitating. The hunter is using his flare to try to find you.”

Wife: “Where the heck are they? I don’t see anyone except you.”

Me: “They’re right in front of me…get ready to sap! Ok, sap the hunter…too late, he’s shooting! Gouge somebody, get them off me, F*CK I’M DEAD.”

Wife: “I’m looking right at you. You’re fine.”

Me: “WTF, woman? I’m DEAD…wait, what node are you at?”

Wife: “I’m with you at the mine.”

Me: “I’m at the lumber mill.”

Wife: “Oh. (Long pause) Uh, funny story: There’s this orc shaman, and he looks just like you, standing all by himself at the mine….”

Breaking Stuff

Breaking things is a part of PvP. It cannot be helped. It can’t be controlled. It’s going to happen. This is a five step process.

1. Get really really pissed when you get the crap kicked out of you.

2. Get even more pissed when the guys that just killed you act like jackasses. “Acting like a jackass” can include them sitting on your body, corpse camping you, or using emotes like /spit, /fart, or /laugh. Or when they kill you for the 3rd, 4th, or 7th time in a row.

3. Never admit that your opponents might just be better than you are. Make excuses, most of which should include allegations of them using hax or otherwise cheating.

4. When you try to get your revenge and fail, get outrageously pissed off. Grab something nearby – your headset or mouse are both really handy – and throw them across the room.

5. When the aforementioned object breaks, get extra-super pissed off, blame your opponent(s) for breaking it, and log off for the next two days.

If you find yourself breaking too many headsets, this reinforced model may help

Provoking Your Spouse (Or Girlfriend or Roommate or Buddy or Significant Other or Life Partner)

This is really easy. For most people, this just comes naturally. Whenever your spouse expresses any frustration at PvP, simply try being dismissive, condescending, or curt with them. This is certain to drive them from mere frustration to outrageous anger. And it will do so instantly. If you’re not sure how to appropriately provoke your spouse, here are a few things to try any time he/she says something like, “This battleground SUCKS. Why can’t these people capture the DAMN FLAG?”

“Oh, relax.”

“I told you your new spec was gonna suck.”

“Are you going to break another headset? Those cost twenty-nine bucks you know…”

“Shhhh! I can’t hear Dr. Phil!”

“LOL, I just killed three warlocks back to back! Oh, sorry, were you saying something?”

“I’m going to tell the therapist about this!”

“Oh, come on. It’s only a game.”

“You’re not being very mature, you know.”

The Visitors

Sometimes friends drop by. Remember how I said my wife was a church-goer? Well, some of our friends, including several of our neighbors, are church friends.

Clergymen are often impressed by our family’s PvP skills

Although this lends itself to a variety of intriguing foibles, the worst is the use of the back door. When people come to the front door, the bell rings and you know a visitor has dropped by. The back door has no bell, and people can be let into the house without everyone else knowing about it. Our neighbor, for example, has “stopped by” to talk to my wife from time to time. It goes like this:

Wife: “Hi neighbor! How are you?”

Neighbor: “Hi, I’m so sorry to intrude! Dave and I are going away this weekend, and I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind feeding out cat for us while we’re away?”

Wife: “No problem. Is the food in the same cabinet?”

Me (in some distant room in the house): “DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!”

Neighbor: “Uh, yes, it’s in the same cabinet…”

Me: “Get your f*cking demon off me!”

Wife: “And the key? It’s still under the flower pot in the back?”

Me: “Your curses are weak, you lame-ass!”

Neighbor: “Yes, same place…Is everything all right?”

Me: “Ah, crap, I’m feared into the lava! I HATE THE FUCKING LAVA, YOU CHEATER!”

Wife: “Oh, yes, that’s just Pig. He’s playing a game.”

Neighbor: “Oh, I see. Sounds like fun.”

Me: “YOU DAMN CHEATING DEMON SUMMONING MOTHER F*CKER!”

The Best Laid Plans…

We have a potentially huge PvP advantage: We sit side-by-side when we play, we are able to communicate immediately with one another, and we PvP together constantly.

And yet, rarely do our plans work perfectly. The other night we got together with our buddy Garroc. The whole idea was to run some Eye of the Storm battlegrounds, get some honor and marks of honor, and have a good time. We even had a nice, flexible plan. Unfortunately, there were a few difficulties we didn’t foresee.

The warlock with the best gear any of us had ever seen. She killed all three of us inside of 40 seconds. Result: Aside from dying, there was a lot of extremely vulgar cussing by myself, my wife, and Garroc on Ventrilo.

Garroc getting stuck in a hole – dunno what to call it, exactly, but it was some sort of terrain feature – right in the middle of a thick brawl at the flag. Instead of being in a 3-on-3 matchup, we were now only 2 on 3 since he managed, more or less, to root himself. Result: he finally got out of the hole. He accomplished this by using his famous “corpse run” technique. And yes, we both died with him.

That warlock again. Result: 3 quick, painful deaths.

The three night elves who had stealthed at a tower we thought was an “easy capture.” Man, I hadn’t seen this trick in a long time. Wish I could say I missed it. Result: I was shot with so many arrows so quickly I didn’t get a chance to see my buddies die.

A group of three paladins that proved freaking impossible to kill. Two fight, one heals. If we break off to kill the healer, they simply switch roles. Result: This is one long-ass, incredibly frustrating fight. The winner isn’t decided by skill, it’s decided by which side gets reinforcements first.

That warlock again. Bitch.

Some pesky gnome mage with hellish sheeping skills. Don’t know how she pulled it off, but she’d sheep one of us, then escape. Then she’d reappear at the most inconvenient time to sheep one of us again. Then she’d escape. This pattern repeated itself just enough to be infuriating. She never killed us, we never killed her. Result: three infuriated Hordies.

The “wolf pack”. It’s amazing how quickly 3 rogues can kill one shaman. This is especially true if his friends run in circles, unable to successfully land a single hamstring or gouge. Result: 1 dead shaman, one live warrior, one live rogue, lots of cussing and blaming.

That warlock again. This time we abandoned the flag and ran, screaming like little girls, the moment we saw her. It didn’t matter. She ran us down and killed two out of three of us. Result: intellectual discussion of what specific nerfs warlocks need.

Real World Conversations

There is, as most people are well aware, a language to gaming that is all its own. There is a subset to that language, however. Many people aren’t aware of it. It’s PvP Speak, and if you do enough PvP, it creeps into your everyday conversations.

There are two downsides to this. The first is that people will generally detect that this is some sort of “elite” internet or gaming jargon. The second is that no one will be able to understand what the heck you’re talking about. I recommend that you avoid the following phrases (variations of which both the wife and I have found ourselves using) to prevent the embarrassing use of PvP Speak in your own life.

“Hi Pig, how’s the sprained ankle?”

“LOL, I’ve been walking around town like I’ve been frost shocked all day.”

“Hey Elvyra, I heard you got in a car accident.”

“Yeah, the guy hit me really hard. It was like I’d gotten smacked with a Gorehowl or something.”

“The meeting was horrible. Freakin’ district managers ganked Anton over the Sullivan account, and wouldn’t give him a break. Damn corpse campers.”

(While checking out a friend’s new car): “Dude, sweet mount!”

“Have you seen the new receptionist? She’s like one of those little blood elf minxes.”

“It’s so frustrating. Me and Frank do all the work around here, and everyone else is just honor farming.”

“What the hell is with this traffic? It’s like somebody placed a big freezing trap right on the damn freeway!”

Conclusions

What conclusions can be drawn from all this? Well, certainly living in a PvP home has been an enlightening experience. PvP isn’t, we’ve learned, simply about in-game fighting. PvP is also about the real-life bickering, fighting, and arguing that is caused by the in-game fighting. It’s also about developing some truly extraordinary swearing skills, being condescending, and blaming each other for any frustrations that may result from PvP. PvP has crept into our language, so that our friends and family think we’re total geeks (more so than usual), and no one understands us.

More than anything else, though, PvP is about the weekly family outing to Best Buy or Fry’s. They’re having a sale on new headsets and, um, we accidentally broke ours in Warsong Gulch the other night.

Here are a list of 12 WOW tips to help you save a bit of time and frustration. They should help both new and experienced players. The tips are compliments of World of Warcraft Gold Free Guide web site.

WOW Tip #1 - Get cosmos UI from cosmosui.org. Its free and legal.

WOW Tips #2 - Autoloot everything. Shift + Right Click on a kill. Saves time

WOW Tip #3 - Get as many quests as possible, simultaneously. Do not do quests one at a time. When entering a new map region, go to the main town first, then speak to all the NPC's, get all the quest, and then proceed to explore. Remember that some quests can be a waste of time, requiring you spend an hour running to and from different people. Don't be afraid to abandon quests in favor of other ones. Don’t waste time on crappy quests.

WOW Tip #4 - Use groups to your advantage. Grouping will immensely speed up your power game, but do it only when necessary. About 25% of the quests are group quests, and you will waste time trying to solo them; unless you wait until you are a few levels higher and the quest becomes green (good tip for solo'ers). The rest of the quests, you can solo. There are some conditions here, however: Beware of inefficient groups - A group that doodles around or keeps dying trying to complete a quest will slow you down. You are better off soloing in this case. If you are a Shaman, or a Paladin or have a quick way to heal yourself and mele both, then you may be better

off soloing more often than not. Warriors and types that mele well but can't heal, and priests and mages who have little armor function are better in groups. Groups can work well; but they must be efficient groups.

WOW Tip #5 - Leveling grinder; killing stuff a few levels below you (con green) is a great way to quickly rack up EXP and grind out a level. Yes, its boring, but it pays. You don't take much damage, you kill them fast, you have quick recovery (low down time). Fast, numerous smaller EXP gains add up over time much quicker than higher, but slower EXP gains with more down time. If you are struggling with a quest, you may want to consider 'level grinding' yourself by spending time killing lesser creatures and then tackle the quest.

WOW Tip #6 - Doing quests 3 or more levels higher than you, or an elite quest solo may only take excess time, unless you are in a group, don’t attempt them. If you spend 5 hours trying to do a level 15 quest and you are at level 13, you may get it done. But in those same 5 hours, you could have made level 15 simply by killing stuff 2-3 levels beneath you. And then doing the quest in 1 hour. So in 6 hours, you get the quest done, and are at level 15, as opposed to finishing the quest in 5 hours and still being at level 13. It’s so tempting to go for that mob boss who's three levels above you and finish your quest solo. You could literally waste 10 hours, or even days trying. BUT, if you get in a group, then you can do it in a cinch. OR you can 'level grind' yourself. This is the heart of powering through this game to the upper levels.

WOW Tip #7 - Avoid this big mistake; players are too quick to use DPS (damage per second) on their weapons as the primary factor. This is just not true. Abilities such as % to crit and damage bonuses are calculated based upon the damage of the weapon or its speed. DPS is just an average and is never used in computing an ability.

Example:

Weapon A: a slow, heavy weapon deals 110-130 damage, yet is only 80 DPS

Weapon B: a faster weapon deals 75-85 damage, and is 85 DPS.

most players will equip weapon B automatically. Well if you are a warrior and you like to use your mortal strike ability....this would be a terrible idea! Why? Because Mortal Strike on weapon A would deal 220-260 damage and on weapon B would deal 150-170 damage. Quite the difference.

Here is another example:

Weapon A: super fast, super light. 10 DPS, speed of 1.5

Weapon B: not as fast, but harder hitting: 12 DPS, speed of 3

Now, lets say you are a Rogue, and you have all your abilities in %critical chance. You have a 12% chance to crit with every swing. With Weapon A, you will have twice as many crits as you will with weapon B. You see why its not always automatic to equip the higher DPS weapon.

WOW Tip #8 - In Macro's and speech, remember that %t will cite your current target. Shift + Clicking on something will add it to your speech or your macro. Both %t and shift+click come in very handy.

WOW Tip #9 - At about level 12-15 or so, you can travel to another race's starting region and still be low enough in levels to get the quests in that area. They will be a cinch to solve and you will still get some exp for the kills.

WOW Tip #10 - Many of the really great weapons drop off bosses inside of instances. Roll on everything. Always be thinking acquire, acquire, acquire.

WOW Tip #11 - One-handed + wand bug; while in combat, if you have a wand equipped in your off-hand and are engaged in mele combat, you can double your damage by hitting with your wand and your mace simultaneously. Normally, when you use a wand, it resets the timer on your one-handed swing. But not if you time it right. Wait until your character is just about to swing with his melee weapon (you see his arm fly back). At this very moment, use your wand, and you will get a double punch. A great trick that turns a caster into a tank. For this reason alone, I would never go for a 2-H weapon as a caster.

WOW Tip #12 - Honor Kills; do not join raid groups for honor points. You will get virtually nothing. Solo or a normal party is your best bet for getting maximum contribution points. Being in a RAID will cut your contribution points down to the absolute minimum per kill.

Since the late 90s, when EverQuest took online gaming into a new light, massively multiplayer online role playing games (MMORPGs) have been steadily gaining popularity. World of Warcraft became an instant success when it was launched in November 2004 and currently has more than half the market of the MMORPG genre with over 7.5 million players worldwide.

The way you play World of Warcraft or WoW, is you create a character either on the Alliance or Horde faction, which are enemies. You choose your race and class in typical RPG style, such as a gnomish magician or undead warlock. Some classes can only be played on one faction but that is changing when The Burning Crusade expansion is released this January.

Once your character is introduced into the world of Azeroth (the name of the game world) you gain experience and levels by killing mobs (non-player character enemies) and completing quests. Quests can be aquired from various sources, such as NPCs or by finding certain items. Quests usually give a nice amount of experience and often useful items so leveling is faster if you do quests as much as you can.

Items and armor are major parts of playing WoW. Along with a character's level, the gear he or she is wearing and using is a sort of status symbol. Lower level players stare in awe at a maximum level character decked out in dazzling suits of armor. Armor and other items are found on mobs, given out in quests or obtained in a group or raid instance.

Grouping is a major part of playing World of Warcraft. Soloing all the way to the maximum level of 60 (70 with The Burning Crusade) is entirely possible but grouping has many advantages. A good group can accomplish a lot more than a single player can.

Killing mobs over and over for experience, or grinding as it is referred to, can be easier and faster with a group of people. Questing can also be faster when the whole group finishes a quest in a single step, whereas the solo player had to do that step by him or herself. Instances, for example, which are places where players enter their own private dungeon, often require a group or even a raid.

Raiding is where things get really exciting. Some instances require many players to crawl through and clear out and have boss mobs that are impossible to kill by one player. Up to 40 players, usually all in the same guild, have to strategize to find a way to defeat a particular high-end boss mob.

World of Warcraft even has its own economy where items are bought and sold in Auction Houses. These items are valuable to players, so some people pay a lot of in-game money or gold for them. Players have taken this economy into the real world by selling gold to other players for real currency and some people even sell whole WoW accounts.

Blizzard isn't too fond of this whole idea but they don't try to crack down on it much. Some players spend their time on WoW by farming (killing mobs solely for the purpose of making money) and end up making a decent amount of real money.

MMORPGs are a fairly new genre in gaming and I see a bright future for Blizzard's World of Warcraft and other online games in the future.

The vicious Jungle Trolls, who populate the numerous islands of the South Seas, are renowned for their cruelty and dark mysticism. Barbarous and superstitious, the wily Trolls carry a seething hatred for all other races.

One tribe, however, was forced to overcome its prejudices when it encountered the Orc Warchief, Thrall, and his mighty Horde. The Trolls of the Darkspear tribe, long since exiled from their ancestral lands in Stranglethorn Vale, were nearly destroyed by a band of aquatic Murlocs, but Thrall and the Horde managed to save them. In return the grateful Trolls swore an oath of eternal allegiance to the Horde.

Led by the cunning Shadow Hunter, Vol'jin, the Darkspear Trolls now make their home in Durotar along with their Orcish allies. Their village, named after their fallen tribal elder, Sen'jin, lies along the eastern coast of the harsh, rocky land. The Darkspear tribe also occupies tracks within the nearby jungles of the Echo Isles.

As part of the Horde, the Trolls have extended their loyalty to the mighty Tauren, but they have little trust for the manipulative Forsaken, whom they believe will visit only misery and strife upon their allies.

The reclusive Night Elves were the first race to awaken in the World of Warcraft. The Night Elves barely managed to banish the Legion from the world, but their wondrous homeland was shattered and drowned by the sea. The eccentric, often-brilliant Gnomes wow are one of the most peculiar races of the world. With their obsession for developing radical new technologies and constructing marvels of mind-bending engineering, it's a wonder that any Gnomes have survived to proliferate.

Thriving within the wondrous techno-city of Gnomeregan, the Gnomes shared the resources of the forested Dun Morogh Peaks with their Dwarven cousins. Though the dwarves of Ironforge also have a propensity for technology and engineering - it is the gnomes who provide the critical, visionary designs for most of the Dwarves' weapons and steam vehicles.

The Gnomes served the Alliance well during the Second War, but strangely, they refused to send any personnel to aid their allies during the Burning Legion's recent invasion. Though their designs helped turn the tide against the Legion, the Dwarves and Humans were shocked by the Gnomes' decision to withhold their courageous troops and pilots.

When the war ended, the Alliance discovered the reason for the Gnomes' sudden withdrawal. Apparently, an ancient, barbaric menace had risen from the bowels of the earth and invaded Gnomeregan. Knowing that their allies' priority was defeating the Burning Legion, the Gnomes decided to make their stand alone. Though they fought valiantly to save their beloved city, Gnomeregan was irrevocably lost.

Nearly half of the Gnomish race was wiped out during the fall of Gnomeregan. The ragged Gnomes that survived fled to the safety of the Dwarves' stronghold of Ironforge. Committed once again to the Alliance's cause, the Gnomes spend their time devising strategies and weapons that will help them retake their ravaged city and build a brighter future for their people.

The stoic dwarves wow of Ironforge are an ancient race of robust humanoids who live beneath the snow-capped mountains of Khaz Modan. The Dwarves have always been fast allies with the Humans, and they revel in the prospects of battle and storytelling alike. In past ages, the Dwarves rarely left the safety of their mountain fortresses. However, whenever the call to battle sounded, they rose up to defend their friends and allies with unmatched courage and valor. Due to a recent discovery that uncovered fragments of their ancient origins, the Dwarves have undergone a remarkable transformation. The discovery convinced the Dwarves that the mighty Titans created them from stone when the world was young. orld of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade will introduce a lot of new features to expand the game in many interesting and fun ways. One of these additions is the introduction of a new profession: jewelcrafting.

Jewelcrafters learn the art of creating beautiful jewelry and trinkets from metals and rare gems. By processing the raw ore mined from the various deposits and mineral veins, jewelcrafters can extract gems from the ore which they can then use for their craft. Although miners sometimes find gems while gathering ore, jewelcrafters mostly rely on their prospecting skills to get more of the precious stones.

Jewelcrafters work with gems in many different ways. If a jewelcrafter uses gems to create jewelry, he usually only needs the raw, uncut stones for his work. These rings, amulets, and trinkets function just like those that can already be found in the game, with a few notable exceptions. For example, jewelcrafters can learn to create gemmed figurines that they can carry in their trinket slots. While these figurines all provide passive benefits, they can also be used to provide the player with a short buff – just enough to give you that little damage boost or maybe that quick burst of extra healing power you may need in a tricky situation. These figurines will bind when picked up, so only jewelcrafters will be able to use their powers.

Another way jewelcrafters can use gems is by cutting them, preparing them to be used in socketed items. Gems come in many different colors and shapes. Different types of gems have different basic properties, and a gem's cut also determines the effect this gem will have. Jewelcrafters can learn several types of cuts for each kind of gem: the Azure Moonstone, for example, can be cut into a lustrous, stormy, solid, or sparkling Azure Moonstone, and each one of these cuts offers different bonuses when used in a socketable item. Placing cut gems into an item's sockets will add the bonuses of these gems to those of the item, allowing players to customize their equipment to better suit their individual play style or the different roles their class can fulfill.

At higher levels, socketed items and specially cut gems become an important part of an adventurer's "bag of tricks". Both armor and weapons can have sockets. Some socketed items can be found in dungeons, but the expansion will also introduce a lot of new recipes for all the professions, including many recipes that let leatherworkers, blacksmiths, and tailors create socketed items. Socketed items can be of uncommon, rare, or even epic quality. An item's sockets can also have a specific color; if you put a gem of a matching color in each socket, the item will reward you with a special stat bonus beyond the gems' regular effects. However, you can also put gems of a different color in these slots if you would rather have a specific gem's effect instead of the added bonus.

ny character can insert gems into an item's sockets – you do not need to be a jewelcrafter to do that. However, you will need to ask a jewelcrafter or become one yourself to obtain most of the gems you can socket. Another source of cut gems are the expansion's high-level bosses. There are rumors that some of these monsters hold stones with powers beyond those of regular gems, but getting your hands on these jewels might prove to be a most formidable challenge; it seems unlikely that their owners would part with their precious stones willingly.

On the right side, you can see a preview of the current item-socketing interface from the game. When you shift-right click a socketed item, this box will appear, displaying the item's current stats and any gem effects that are currently on the item. You can add new gems to the item by placing one of the gems from your inventory into one of the item's sockets. The interface allows you to play around with different gem configurations, so you can try out how different gems will affect your item before you decide on what gems you want to socket. Once you have found a configuration you like, you can press the "Socket Gems" button to socket the gems you picked.

Socketing gems will lock them into place, and there is no way to remove a gem once it has been socketed. You can put a new gem into a socket that already holds a gem, but by doing so you break the old one out of its socket, shattering the gem and making it unusable. This allows you to add gems to your new socketed items right away without having to wait until you find the "perfect" collection of gems, since you always have the option of upgrading your item later.

Try putting some gems from your inventory into the socketed item and check out how they affect its stats; this should give you an idea of how socketing will work in the expansion, but please keep in mind that both the stats and the interface presented here may change as we progress further in the development of the new jewelcrafting and item-socketing features of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade.

Where do I start?

Apprentice through Artisan Jewelcrafting may ONLY be trained in Silvermoon City (Horde) and The Exodar (Alliance). This is of course subject to change, but at the moment plan on a trip to those cities. Master Jewelcrafting may be trained at Thrallmar (Horde) and Honor Hold (Alliance) in Hellfire Peninsula.

What do you need for Jewelcrafting?

Primarily, ore and gems. There are a few that use alchemy mats, a few that use enchanting mats, and a few that use assorted mob drops, but nothing in such quantity that it would merit taking a second profession other than mining.

Where can I use Jewelcrafting?

Anywhere, there are no fixed resources required (like a Forge or Moonwell). Most Jewelcrafting items require a Jeweler's Kit to produce, this is a trade item you can buy from nearly any Trade Goods vendor for 8s.

What can I make with Jewelcrafting?

As the flavor text specifies, you will learn how to cut precious gems and craft jewelry. Specifically, Jewelcrafting allows you to make rings, necklaces, trinkets, a few crowns, and socketable gems. This is a very unique profession in that it produces two types of gains, new gear for accessory slots and augmentation of existing gear. It's a hybrid between a production profession like tailoring and the service profession of enchanting.

How good are these accessories?

The obvious shining point of Jewelcrafting accessories is that accessories are traditionally rare to characters below level 30, so being able to create accessories customized for characters leveling up is wonderful. Past level 30, the Jewelcrafting gear is vastly outpaced by dungeon loot. Past 30, Jewelcrafting items seem to be at roughly a "quest reward" level, and as of yet there are no "ringers" that would warrant taking off dungeon loot for. I imagine this may be addressed at launch via rare designs and just more designs in general. Endgame Jewelcrafting is not about accessories though, it's all about the gems!

Which classes benefit most from Jewelcrafting?

Since accessories can be used by anyone, and there are gem cuts to augment virtually every stat, all classes benefit most from Jewelcrafting. There are necklaces with high attack power, rings with armor and defense, trinkets with mana regeneration, socketed gems with crit rating. This really is a unique profession in that it doesn't seem biased toward any class or role.

Which professions work well with Jewelcrafting?

I would strongly recommend picking up Mining if you plan on Jewelcrafting. The reason is threefold. First, it's cheaper. Second, your materials may be in short supply due to the greater demand and lesser portability of ore versus bars, and you can't do much with bars (I imagine the ore market will boost when the expansion is released, but overall the demand for bars comes from many sources, the demand for ore is exclusively on Jewelcrafting). Third, by mining you will find gems naturally on the nodes while mining in ADDITION to the gems you will get when you Prospect all of that ore, not to mention stones for statues.

If not mining, I might recommend Enchanting, as nearly everything you can produce as a Jewelcrafter is of at least Uncommon rarity, and in many cases isn't worth selling on the Auction House due to oversaturation. Since very little of it is Soulbound however, there's not much difference if you simply stick Enchanting on an alt.

What should I skill up on?

There are two major standbys for leveling Jewelcrafting, Stone Statues and Trade Goods.

Those practically worthless stones that drop from mining nodes are converted into Stone Statues for a cheap Renew (10 hp/s for 15s at the Rough level up to 50 hp/s for 15s at the Dense level) and cheap Jewelcrafting levels.

Trade Goods are mats required for some of your Jewelcrafting recipes that are made from base metals, very similar to the clothcrafting or engineering schema in that at the "Copper" level you use the "Delicate Copper Wire" trade good in almost everything you do, and it uses 2 Copper Bars. So this is an item you can make for cheap skill that you will use to gain more skill, and is one of the only times in Jewelcrafting that Bars will be more important than Ore.

What should I stockpile now to level Jewelcrafting?

As far as rare items at higher levels, you're pretty much on your own because the recipes could change at a moment's notice, but think about elemental essences and the like.

How high can I get with materials from Azeroth?

310, this is pretty much the same for all other professions as far as I've seen.

What is Prospecting?

Prospecting is a skill that can be trained at level 20 Jewelcrafting from any Jewelcrafting vendor. It grants the Prospecting ability in your ability book. In game text:

Search 5 ore of a base metal for precious gems. This will destroy the ore in the process.

The function is incredibly similar to Disenchant, it kills the ore but has a chance at returning materials used in your profession. In this case, gems.

What gems can be found with Prospecting?

From all testing so far, you can get any gem that is naturally found on the node of that ore type (eg Shadowgem from Copper, Citrine from Mithril, Azeorthian Diamond from Thorium, Flame Spessarite from Fel Iron)

Are there any restrictions to Prospecting

Two actually. First of all, as the description states you can only search ore of a base metal. This excludes noble metals such as Silver, Gold, Truesilver, Eternium, and Khorium (any ore with "green" rarity). Second, you must have Jewelcrafting skill roughly equivalent to the mining skill required to mine that ore (eg 175 for Mithril, 300 for Fel Iron, 350 for Adamantite)

I have a ton of gems, now what?

Below 300 Jewelcrafting skill, gems are only used as part of jewelry creations, and although you will need a lot of gems to skill up, they don't really take value until past 300.

Past 300, the Outland-exclusive gems can be "cut" into gems that can be added to socketable equipment.

Aren't socketable gems just portable enchants?

Gems are "portable" in the sense that a Jewelcrafter can cut a gem and sell it on the Auction House, but they have restrictions too. Gems can't be added to gear that does not have pre-existing sockets, enchants can be.

Can I stand in Orgrimmar all day cutting gems for people to make money?

While it is true that gems are significantly easier to acquire than enchanting materials, there is a cooldown imposed on gem cutting. From all testing so far, this cooldown appears to be 10 minutes for Uncommon gems and 60 minutes for Rare gems. I can easily see Jewelcrafters selling the ability to cut a gem though for this very reason, since your time is a premium and the recipes are rare.

How do I cut gems?

Gem cutting requires a gem, a recipe for the specific "cut" of gem you're aiming for, and a Simple Grinder, which is just a trade item found on nearly any trade goods vendor for 2g50s.

What does specific cut mean?

As mentioned in the Jewelcrafting preview, there is more than one way to cut each type of gem. For example, a Golden Draenite can be cut Brilliant (+6 Intellect), Gleaming (+6 Spell Critical Rating), Thick (+6 Defense Rating), Rigit (+6 Hit Rating), or Smooth (+6 Critical Strike Rating), and these are just the ones we know of so far. Every cut requires a different recipe, so you can imagine already how many potential recipes there are!

Where do I find these recipes?

In the alpha, a small selection of gem cutting recipes have been placed on the Master Jewelcrafters in Thrallmar and Honor Hold. In the release, these recipes are designed to be world drops. I imagine some of them will be vendor-bought, but the vast majority of gem cuts will be found in the world. Additionally, there are some blue gem recipes that have so far been found only in Nagrand.

Blue gems?

There are six "uncommon" (green rarity) Outland gems: Blood Garnet, Flame Spessarite, Deep Peridot, Golden Draenite, Shadow Draenite, and Azure Moonstone. They come with relatively similar and common drop rates from Fel Iron, Adamantite, and Khorium nodes, as well as Fel Iron and Adamantite prospecting. In addition to this, there are super rare blue (blue rarity) gems that are found the same way with an exceedingly lower drop rate, these gems tend to produce fabulous effects when cut.

What kind of effects?

From the limited number of rare recipes I have so far, the stat gain from rare gems is a very marginal increase over their uncommon equivalents. For example, the Brilliant Golden Draenite gives +6 Intellect, but the extraordinarily rare Brilliant Dawnstone, with an even more rare recipe drop, gives +8 Intellect.

Are rare gems really worth it then?

Absolutely! For the extra day of stripmining it takes you to find a Dawnstone, you can have 100 days of playtime with a piece of Tier 7 armor that has 2 more intellect than everyone else's. Understand that as a line item, the increase is not that significant, but when you consider that it is a bonus above and beyond everything else you have, getting the best gems you can for your gear will be crucial.

Massively multi-player online role-playing games (MMORPGs) have their own vocabulary and etiquette. There are very specific, unwritten rules around almost every aspect of player interaction. It's tough to know what they are, but other players will let you know if you've violated them.

World of Warcraft is the best online roleplaying game to date. It's a pleasure to be immersed in this deep, beautiful and ever-changing world. Now, other games seem rather flat without human interaction.

A large part of role-playing games requires calculations, and that presume the person out of the role. When you say, "I attack the tiger" -- you then have to roll a die, and then put calculations as to whether you essentially hit the beast, and how powerful.

Computers were a natural put in to replace the deadly aspects of RPGs. The dice rolling and calculations still occur, but behind the background so that you're never taken out of the action. The very first outcome of this marriage of computers, multiple-players and RPGs were text-only online game called MUDs. or Multi-User-Dungeons. These MUDs dominated college mainframes in the late 80's and early nineties. Then came everquest-- which still hold all of the dice rolling, but added a 3-D qraphicalinterface that showed the outcomes of the calculations. You still are able to see text in the window that says, "You hit the tiger for 35 damage," however you are able to also see your sword bashing into its face, and hear him tear out in pain. EverQuest was extremely successful in its time, and I attempted to like it, but it was unbelievably clunky, and boring. You used up the first 10 hours slaying rats and snakes and beasts to grow experience.

This does not happen with World of Warcraft (WoW). As with nearly every single Blizzard title, the game is extremely polished, has a user-friendly interface, and is basically beautiful to look at and listen to. A group of over 30 artists committed on the game's visuals, and it shows. The art is extremely stylized -- the world doesn't look totally realistic, and that's the objective, as I found out during the behind the scenes DVD that came with the collector's edition of the game.Everquest, the sequel to the pioneering EverQuest, tries to look realistic, and for that reason you notice the flaws a lot more when it fails. The stylized visuals of WoW somehow make it easier to suspend your disbelief, and immerse you in the world.

And immerse you it does. Let me warn you -- this game is highly addictive. In the two months I've been at it, I've logged over five days of playing time. And I've stopped watching TV altogether.

Of all the online role-playing games out there, this is the best. All of the others, especially EverQuest II, pale in comparison. EverQuest II's interface is clunky, and there's a lot of grinding -- the act of killing the same type of monster over and over again to gain experience. In contrast, WoW's quest system starts you off right away with purposeful missions. There are multiple story lines that advance as you complete quests.

There's also the overarching battle between factions of players. When you create a character, the race you choose decides which side you're on -- Alliance or Horde. Players of both factions exist in the same worlds and can battle each other.

The interface just feels right. It lets you get down to the business of role playing, and doesn't get in the way.

In WoW, interaction with other players is essential. There are certain quests that cannot be finished solo. The human element adds a lot of spice to the game. These are the shining moments of the game, when you're deep inside a dungeon with four other real people, and the unexpected or the heroic occurs.

It's easy to take on your role in the game, because other players can't see or hear you, they only see what you make your character do.

It is a virtual world in which various characters interact each other, everyone representing a player. In order to buy items, services and various goods the player needs virtual gold, that is the currency of the World of Warcraft world.

The World of Warcraft phenomenon might be affecting people in a more subtle way than we think. Yes, there have been some cases of dearth (allegedly) caused by over-exposure to World of Warcraft, but what's even more disturbing is that people are beginning to spend important amounts of money for this game.

Everyone has their little tips for WoW, and below is just a few things I have picked up along the way that might help with your levelling.

Professions!

Professions are a great tool to have, as a Warlock you could choose Tailoring to make your own armor and bags, or perhaps Alchemy for all those helpful potions. A lot of Warlocks go Engineering for all the nifty trinkets, but if you don't have your heart set on a particular profession, or you want to wait till you're higher level, why not choose some gathering professions?

Both Mining and Herbalism require you to collect items from all over the world, usually where a lot of mobs are. I personally find I am a little higher up on the XP bar when I choose Mining or Herbalism as I am often fighting through additional mobs to get that herb, or than vein I want. Clearing to get to it, means more XP!

Wands!

Wands are a very handy tool, not only do you do damage, but it doesn't cost you any mana! At level 6 I made my way to the Auction House to search for a Lesser Magic Wand. These are made by enchanters and can be used from level 5 onwards. If there are non up in the Auction House, ask in Trade Channel.

Even the elderly make it in the end

A lot of players rush ahead in that never ending push to get to 60. One of the area's some people tend to rush in is when entering a closed area such as a fort, or tower, or charging into mobs head on. If you take your time, picking off the mobs one by one from the outside, working your way in, not only will you make more XP, but you won't be running back from the Graveyard as often.

If you are unsure if an extra mob will add on a particular pull, grab the extra first. Most times if you are killing one at a time, you are killing constantly, particularly as a Warlock, and very rarely will the mobs spawn before you are done anyway.

Green is good!

Another thing a lot of people tend to do is abandon quests when they get green. Unless a quest is five or more level's below you, it's probably still worth doing for the XP, and you never know, it may just lead to a higher up chain. Remember that green quests are usually very quick to get through as well as the mobs are a couple of level's below you, thus allowing you to kill quickly. And some green quests can still give 1000 xp or so, who would knock back 1000 xp?

Training not always needed

Although I always get excited when it comes to a spell ding, sometimes you don't need to head back to train straight away. As you get higher up, you are usually further and further away from a Warlock trainer, you loose your pet when you hearth / fly back and it can take as much as 20 minutes by the time you run around.

I suggest having a print out of all your spells, and take a look at just what you'll be getting. If you don't really need the upgrades straight away, or perhaps they are spells you don't use that often, put off training till you get back into a major city at the end of the night. You save yourself time and can continue getting XP!

Trader Char

Another thing that can save time, is having what I call "a trader character". This is usually a low level alt you aren't playing, or perhaps like me, you might make a character purely for this purpose.

Bags fill up very quickly, and the last thing you want to be doing is having to fly back to put things up at the Auction House or in your bank every half an hour. If you have a gathering profession too, you will find your bags fill up even quicker. Banks and Auction Houses may not be everywhere, but mailboxes are! If you set up your trader character in the major city of your choice, you can mail yourself anything you want to sell, then at the end of the day, pull on your trader char and put everything up in the Auction House.

This saves time from flying back and forth, you usually find yourself selling a lot more than normal, particular the little stuff, thus making you more money and of course you have all that free bag space. The little silver you spend mailing yourself the items is made back in time saved!

Speaking of the Auction House, I recommend getting yourself familiar with it around level 10. As a caster, we are very fortunate in that we are not as gear dependant as say a Warrior is, so we can take our time looking for gear. I make sure I do a big search every 10 level's, but try to upgrade little bits here and there if I see them.

The Auction House works wonders as the gear you will be wanting to wear today, probably won't drop for you for a couple of level's. Just watch the price gouging some people try to do, don't pay more than what you're comfortable with, and if you shop around for a few level's above you, you have more time to shop and a better chance of finding the same item or one similar for a cheaper price.

Beyond the Untamed Horizon

Less than twenty years ago, the orcs' former homeworld, Draenor, was ripped apart by the violent energies of several dimensional portals that tore the very fabric of the planet to pieces. This catastrophic event left Draenor a broken, shattered world that the survivors came to call Outland. To this day, some parts of Outland are still unreachable by foot or boat, floating eerily on the horizon as silent reminders of the terrible fate that befell Draenor. Yet the denizens of Outland have adapted and learned to harness some of the indigenous species as flying mounts, allowing adventurers to reach even the most remote and dangerous regions of this wild, untamed world.

One of the most exciting new features of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade will be the introduction of a new kind of mount that will provide players with unprecedented freedom to explore the world of Outland from an entirely new perspective. After reaching level 70, players will eventually be able to obtain a flying mount for their characters. Outland is home to incredibly varied and exotic fauna, and the sentient inhabitants of this world have trained several unique creatures as flying mounts. Both Horde and Alliance will have their own special type of mount, but there are also mounts that will be extremely rare even among the most powerful characters. The nether drake is one of these.

With flying mounts, players will be able to take to the skies, to soar among the crimson clouds of Hellfire Peninsula or watch as Nagrand's sea of grass swaying in the breeze far below as they make their way to new lands. Players will have full control over their flying mounts, allowing them to roam the skies and freely explore all regions of Outland. In fact, certain areas of Outland will only be accessible by air, as some parts of the ruined world are floating out in the void, unreachable except by those who command one of Outland's flying creatures.

A few of these "unlockable" areas are actually located near some of the lower-level regions of Outland; a player's journey will take them through the Dark Portal to the very ends of Outland and finally back to where they started, thus completing the circle – but now they will be able to access regions that were previously only viewable from a distance. Some dungeons also feature wings that can't be reached without a flying mount, and this should provide players with a profound sense of advancement after having gained considerable experience, new abilities, and powerful weapons and armor. In a way, the flying mount represents the most tangible accomplishment of a character's progress up to level 70, but it also serves as a key to the content that awaits players beyond the maximum level.

Origin of the Nether Drakes

Near the end of the Second War, the black dragon Deathwing traveled through the Dark Portal to Draenor. Believing the world to be a relatively safe haven for his offspring, he secreted away a cache of black dragon eggs. Hit the space bar (jump) to climb vertically in the air, much like a Harrier jet. Once in the air, you can control your flying mount exactly the same way as a land mount, with the additional element of going up and down.
The normal flying mounts increase your speed in land and air by 60%. This is slower than the ground speed of an epic land mount, which increases speed by 100%. While the normal flying mount may seem a worse option than the epic land mount, keep in mind that you can simply fly over most enemies, as well as over impassable or rough terrain such as in Blade's Edge Mountains. This can save considerable travel time over an epic land mount.
Any item, effect, or enchantment that would affect land mount speed also applies to flying mounts. These include Carrot on a Stick, Mithril Spurs, Riding Crop, Crusader Aura, and the glove enchant for mount speed.
The Riding Crop provides a 10% speed boost to ground and air mounts. It does not stack with any other enchant or speed boosting object so once you have it, that's all you need. (Carrot on a Stick, you've served me well!)
The Paladin can travel faster than anyone else while using the Crusader Aura speed buff. This is a 20% boost to land and flying mount speed.
When using the riding crop, the epic flying mount is only 10% slower than the flying mount taxis! The epic flying mount travel time can be significantly shorter than a taxi because you can take direct routes - as opposed to the scenic routes that the taxi normally takes.
You cannot remount if you get off your flying mount while in the air, because you are moving. You will have to land (hopefully at a non-fatal speed) before you can get on your mount again.
Splat! Along those lines, if you get off your mount while too high, hopefully you have a device or spell that will slow you down, such as Slow Fall, Levitate, or an engineering device.
For aerial daredevils, you can try to dismount and attack other players in-air - again, hopefully you have some way of slowing your fall after your combat maneuver.
Most forms of crowd control abilities, such as Polymorph, Fear, and even the Discombobulator Ray (awww) do not work against players on flying mounts.
Be careful flying your mount around enemy towns - they usually have an elite aerial guard patrol, which can literally kill you before you hit the ground.
If you log out while on a flying mount, you'll still be on it when you come back.
There are certain areas you cannot go while flying. You may run up into an invisible wall and a message will indicate that you can travel no further.
If you happen to die in too remote of an area while flying, you may have to use a Spirit Healer to recover your body. Ouch!
Some "secret" places in Outland are only reachable by flying mount.
There are all sorts of interesting things to discover with your flying mount. For example, many floating objects including tiny islands are scattered around Outland. Have fun exploring!

early twenty-five thousand years ago, the eredar race arose on the world of Argus. They were extremely intelligent and had a natural affinity for magic in all its myriad forms. Using their gifts, they developed a vast and wondrous society.

Unfortunately the eredar's accomplishments caught the attention of Sargeras, the Destroyer of Worlds. He had already begun his Burning Crusade to eradicate all life from the cosmos, and he believed that the brilliant eredar would be pivotal in leading the vast demonic army he was gathering. Thus, he contacted the eredar's three most prominent leaders: Kil'jaeden, Archimonde, and Velen. In exchange for the loyalty of the eredar race, Sargeras offered untold power and knowledge.

Although the offer sounded very tempting, Velen had a vision of the future that filled him with sick dread. Sargeras had spoken the truth: the eredar who joined the Dark Titan would indeed gain enormous power and knowledge. However, the eredar would themselves be transformed into demons.

Velen saw the Legion in all its terrible might and witnessed the destruction it would wreak upon all of creation. He hastened to warn Kil'jaeden and Archimonde, but they dismissed his concerns, for they had been enticed by Sargeras' promises. They gave Sargeras their allegiance and were transformed into colossal beings of depthless evil.

The sheer power that Sargeras commanded made direct opposition unthinkable. Velen nearly despaired, but his prayer for help was overheard. A being came to Velen and explained that it was one of the naaru, a race of sentient energy beings bent on stopping the Burning Crusade. The naaru offered to take Velen and any other like-minded eredar to safety.

Deeply relieved, Velen gathered the other eredar who had thus far refused to join Sargeras. Naming themselves the draenei, or "exiled ones" in the Eredun language, the renegades barely escaped from Argus, with the Burning Legion only moments behind. Kil'jaeden was furious with what he felt was Velen's betrayal, and the demon vowed to hunt Velen and the rest of the draenei to the ends of the cosmos if need be.

The Legion chased the draenei for many thousands of years. The draenei visited many worlds and explored much of the known cosmos in their quest to find safe harbor. Still the Legion would not give up its pursuit. Meanwhile, the enigmatic naaru race blessed the draenei with Light-given knowledge and power. The naaru explained that there were other forces in the cosmos that would stand against the Burning Legion. One day the naaru would forge them into a single unstoppable army of the Light. Deeply affected by the naaru's words, the draenei vowed to honor the Light and uphold the naaru's altruistic ideals.

At last Velen and his draenei settled upon a remote and peaceful world that seemed an ideal refuge. They named it Draenor, or "Exiles' Refuge", and there they quietly cultivated their society once again. Ever wary of being discovered again by Kil'jaeden's forces, Velen and his mystics kept their magics hidden for generations.

In time the draenei met and befriended the shamanistic orc clans that already lived in the tranquil southern grasslands of Nagrand. Aside from engaging in some limited trade, the draenei and orcs regarded one another with respect but kept mostly to themselves.

In spite of the draenei's caution, Kil'jaeden discovered their secret refuge on Draenor. He learned more of the world and its inhabitants, and he grew intrigued by the mighty orc race. A plan unfolded in his mind, and the demon lord began to laugh. He could see precisely how to mold the orcs into the instrument of his wrath. It was merely a matter of time and pressure.

And so Kil'jaeden began to corrupt the orcs, first through the elderly shaman Ner'zhul, and then through his apprentice, Gul'dan. The orc clans dedicated themselves to the art of war and joined to form a single, murderous Horde. Even the wisest shaman learned warlock magics and abandoned the teachings they had once revered.

Smoothly manipulated from a state of wary acceptance into blind rage and bloodlust, the orcs attacked the draenei. This bloody conflict lasted nearly eight years, but the orcs' triumph was inevitable. The draenei were mighty due to their Light-given powers, but the demon-maddened Horde was mightier still. The orcs killed over eighty percent of the draenei race and sent the rest fleeing for safety to the remote corners of the world.

Afterwards, draenei who had fought the Horde and survived found that they had been affected by the fel energies wielded so freely by the orc warlocks. These draenei have since mutated into lesser forms, resulting in a series of subspecies. The Broken and the Lost Ones (as seen above) are two such genetic offshoots. Their warped bodies bear only a rough resemblance to the proud draenei they once were, and quite a few have lost their grip on sanity.

Thousands of years ago, the exiled Highborne landed on the shores of Lordaeron and founded the enchanted kingdom of Quel'Thalas. These high elves, as they called themselves, created a fount of vast, magical energies within the heart of their land - the Sunwell. Over time, they grew dependant on the Sunwell's unstable energies - regardless of the bitter lessons they'd learned in ages past.

During the Third War, the villainous Prince Arthas invaded Quel'Thalas and reduced the once-mighty realm to rubble and ashes. His undead army decimated nearly ninety percent of the high elven population. In addition, he used the Sunwell's energies to resurrect Kel'thuzad - a powerful undead Lich - thereby fouling the Sunwell's mystical waters. The few elven survivors, realizing that they had been cut off from the source of their arcane power, grew increasingly volatile and desperate.

In the midst of the elves' darkest hour came Kael'thas Sunstrider - the last of Quel'Thalas' royal bloodline. Kael, as he was commonly known, knew that the remnant of his people would not long survive without the nourishing magics that once empowered them. Renaming his people blood elves, in honor of their fallen countrymen, he taught them how to tap into ambient mystical energies - even demonic energies - in order to sate their terrible thirst for magic. In search of a new destiny for his people, Kael'thas ventured to the remote world of Outland where he encountered the fallen night elf, Illidan. Under Illidan's tutelage, Kael and his blood elves have regained much of their former power.

Unfortunately, the blood elves' practice of embracing demonic energies resulted in them being shunned by their former comrades in the Alliance. My Strategy

There are many ways to make gold in WoW:

Grinding, Tradeskills, Questing Etc.

However none are as effective as "Reselling" or "Buying low and selling High" .

This strategy can be applied to any mmorpg, I started doing it in Everquest years ago, it worked well for me back then and it has worked very well for me in WoW as well. I have made somewhere in the ballpark of 80,000g in the time that I have been playing WoW spending only around 30 minutes per day on average buying and selling.

I sold a good portion of that gold, and the rest I spent on friends, and myself. I was able to keep all my (and a couple of my close friends) characters in the very best blues and purples as I leveled them (I had all the BoE tier 1 epics from molten core in my bank when I was in my 40's), buy mounts at 40, and epic mounts at 60, power level all my tradeskills to 300 in a matter of hours, even powerlevel many factions through turn-ins of BoE items purchased in AH. Allowing me to buy other races epic mounts among other rewards. I got all 1,200 tickets for darkmoon fair in an afternoon buying all the turning mats on AH. I also was able to create an army of twinks all decked out in the best gear, and best enchants money can buy. And I still have so much gold I don't even know what to do with it. And the best part is that it was so easy! I laugh every time I think of someone grinding for hours on end to make a few gold .

Ok enough of that lets talk about what we need to do to prepare to make some money!

Lootlink stores clickable links to every item that is ever linked in public channels or on people that you inspect. It is very handy for getting links to rare items to add to your Shopping List.

Bring up the lootlink window once it is installed by typing /ll or /lootlink

Linkeratior WoW Guide

Is a good alternative to lootlink also.

It keeps track of links that you see, and then to retrieve the link you simply type the text version of it.

For example you would type [krol blade] and on your screen would actually appear [Krol Blade]

as a clickable link

In order to install any of these mods in warcraft all you have to do is unzip them into:

C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons

or wherever you have wow installed, that is the default location though.

If the addon does not appear when you log in to wow, you probably do not have it unzipped into the correct location. Check and make sure it is in the addons directory.

If you get an error saying that you do not have enough memory to run the mod, then do the following:

log into warcraft and at the character selection screen click the "addons" button, then in the upper right hand corner notice the box labeled "Script Memory(MB)" I believe the default number is 48, change it to a few mb higher than what it is set for , say 64mb for example. Then click ok and try to log in again.

MACRO KEYS

I have the following macro keys set up:

/auctioneer broker 500

/auctioneer broker 100

these will allow you to quickly check for buyouts with a 5 gold, and 1 gold profit respectively, these can be pressed even during a scan and if you see something worth buying you can stop the scan and buy it. (if your sitting at your PC) The number is in silver so 100 = 100silver = 1 gold.

Here is how you create a macro for those who don't know:

(from the main menu click macros, click "New", give it a name and icon, then in the commands box type the "/auctioneer XXX" command. where XXX is the number of silver"

General Strategy

READ THIS ONCE NOW, FINISH READING THE GUIDE, THEN READ THIS SECTION AGAIN.

The general idea is to scan the AH, buy the items which are listed below the average selling price, then re-list them for a profit:

1. Make a level 1 character

2. Give Him/Her a catchy name

3. If you have enough money to do so at this point, go ahead and buy some 14 or 16 slot bags. If not don't worry, you can work your way up to that when your rolling in gold.

4. Park yourself in AH

5. Set up your shopping list (read on to find out how)

6. Open up the auction window

7. Uncheck the categories: Container, Consumable, Projectile, and Quiver as things in those categories generally do not produce good profits and just slow down your scans.

8. Press the scan button and wait for it to finish.

9. For the first few days the best thing to do is scan with Auctioneer as many times as you can through the day at different times. After a dozen or so scans across a span of 2 or 3 days auctioneer will begin to accumulate enough data to give you somewhat accurate pricing information.

10. Once you think you have enough scans to have good enough pricing data you can start searching for good buys:

11. I search for good deals 2 ways:

I create a macro : ?/auctioneer broker 500?

This is a quick button I can click at any time and see everything that is listed at least 5g too low.(you can do whatever amount of gold you like 100 = 1g)

I also use the ?Search Auctions? Tab in the AH window. This is installed by the Auctioneer add-on.

12. Check your /auctioneer broker 500" hotkey results

13. Check your shopping list report.

14. On the Search Auctions' tab in AH search for:

Buyouts with percent less 80% and minimum profit 50silver

Buyouts with percent less 50% and minimum profit 1g

Bids (short / medium) with percent less 80% and minimum profit 50s

Bids (short / medium) with percent less 50% and minimum profit 1g

15. I have the 6 searches saved so I can run them all quickly in a row, starting with the 1g profit searches first.

16. As you begin to make more money you can search for higher profit items only as the smaller profit items will not be worth the effort then. For example I usually search:

Buyouts with percent less 90% and minimum profit 2g

Buyouts with percent less 50% and minimum profit 5g

Buyouts with percent less 25% and minimum profit 10g

Bids (short / medium) with percent less 90% and minimum profit 2g

Bids (short / medium) with percent less 50% and minimum profit 5g

Bids (short / medium) with percent less 25% and minimum profit 10g

17. Then if I don't find many items in those searches, then I fall back to my lower profit searches and pick up a few more items there.

18. You can tweak these numbers and percents as you see fit those are just what I do.

19. Buyout all the good deals, and then head to the mailbox to pick them up and come back and re-list them for more in AH. Read the rest of this guide for exact guidelines on what to buy and how to sell. You have to use common sense and some guidelines when choosing what to buy. In general when you are just starting out stick with low level(

20. When you start to accumulate a lot of items (I usually have over 100 items in AH at a given time) it is helpful to leave the expired ones in your mailbox until you are ready to re-list all of the items at once. This will make it so that you only have to empty your mailbox and list items once a day, rather than every time you are at the mailbox. This will make your life a lot simpler once you have a large inventory.

21. Run these scans as often as you can, because the more you scan the more money you will make. I generally scan 3 times a day on weekdays: Once when I wake up and let it run while I shower. Once when I get home from work or while I eat dinner, and once right before I go to bed. Scan more if you can, remember it only costs you about 30 seconds of your time to log in and start a scan you can go do something else while it scans.

22. Always keep your character either at the mailbox, or in front of an auctioneer, that's why you made a lvl 1 alt for this so that you are always ready to go when you log in.

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES

BUYING

* Run scans as often as possible

The more scans you run the better your data will be, and the more deals you will find.

Also scan at non-peak times to find deals that others miss. Scan many times during peak time if you can because many items get listed every minute.

* Bid on Tuesdays before the servers go down

Get your bid in before the server goes down on items with short or even medium durations left and you will have a better chance of winning them.

* Scan late Sunday night/ early Monday morning

These are one of the best times to pick up some cheep deals because everyone lists all the items they found over the weekend late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Not only are there a large amount of items for sale, but lots of competition so people list their items cheaper undercutting each other. This is great for us because we can buy up the under priced items then wait till a better time to sell them for a profit.

* Sell on Sunday

Sunday is by far the best day to sell. For some reason a lot of people do their AH shopping on Sunday. Maybe it's just because more people log-in on Sundays so more items get bought, but whatever it is Sundays are great for selling items. I always have a mailbox full of gold by Monday morning.

* Make offers to people auctioning their items in the trade channel

If you see a particularly good item in a trade channel that you know will sell well make the seller an offer that is lower than what you know you can sell it for in AH. I usually offer anywhere from 50% to 75% of what I can sell it for depending on the item. Don't waste too much time haggling with them, just make them an offer, and if they refuse don't worry about it there are plenty more deals to be had. Also many times a seller who has rejected my offer will message me some time later and ask me if I still want the item for what I offered because they have not had luck selling it and they just want to get rid of it.

* Manually searching for items

Here is where you can really make some money, after you have done the auctioneer thing, and all the good deals have been bought up, there are some other actions you can take to ensure maximum profits. And this is where I make a lot of money so pay attention.

I was bored one day with doing the same old auctioneer scan thing so I decided to try something new. I decided to find something that I could buy up for cheep that I felt was undervalued. While power leveling my rogue one day I noticed that the biggest help in my killing power was having the best daggers I could get for my level, I also noticed that a lot of people make twink rogues. So I went to AH and bought up every green dagger between the levels of 5-19 that have agility and attack power since these seemed to be the most desirable for a lowbie rogue. They were selling anywhere from 5s to 50s on my server. I re-listed them all for 1g 99s, Every time I was in AH I would buy up all the lower priced daggers than mine. Mine began to sell.

Within a week I had upped the price to 2g99s for of power, and of agility daggers, and was now buying up all the other alternative green daggers such as +strength and +stamina and was listing them at 1g99s. They always sell. The re-listing fee is negligible so I can list them as many times as it takes. In fact if I get an overabundance of a certain type of dagger, I usually just vendor them. Since I buy then for like 10s its better to just buy them up and vendor them and loose a few silver , and have someone buy yours for 2g99s instead. You are still making a huge profit.

I then moved on to other green lvl 1-19 items following the same idea:

Lvl 1-19 green cloth ?of the eagle?; listing them all for 1g99s to 2g99s

Lvl 1-19 green leather of the monkey of agility of power; listing them all for 2g99s or more. I can sell a +5of the monkey legs or +4monkey gloves for well over 10g a pair.

1-19 green rings of the monkey, eagle, bear, etc as well as Blood rings, Demon Bands, and Ring of the Moon; Buying them all up and re-listing them for anywhere from 5g for a +2stat ring to 19g for a +3 of the monkey or of the eagle ring.

Another idea I had that has worked well:

lvl 40-50 green MAIL of the Monkey, Agility, attack Power. At level 40 hunters can begin to wear chain, this means that they need to upgrade all their gear starting at 40, so I buy up all the 40+ green mail gear that has good hunter stats and I re-list it for higher prices. If you keep buying up all the cheaper alternatives that get listed the hunters have no choice but to pay your prices, which they will because they are excited about getting to wear chain so they impulse buy.

You can come up with your own ideas following the same idea, some that I haven't had time to try are 40+ plate of the bear for warriors, or 40+ gear for shamans.

It doesn't really matter what item you choose as long as you know there is a demand for it and you are diligent in buying up all the lower competition and re-listing them. You could even do this with rare or uncommonly seen trade goods etc.

* Use caution buying 40+ blues; especially weapons

Use a bit of judgment before buying up too many 40+ blue items. Be sure that you are going to be able to sell the item for a decent profit because the AH listing fees on 40+ blue items can be high. Some higher level blue weapons can have listing fee’s of several gold. So only buy high level blues if you know 1) the item has a high demand 2) you will be able to make a profit even if you have to list it a few times because 2g a listing adds up.

* Epic Items

The same goes for epics, they generally have high listing fees, and the auctioneer data may be skewed because of a handful of overpriced epics that have been sitting in AH for weeks. Use caution when buying epic items. I would suggest that you only get involved with epics once you have plenty of experience and gold reserves on hand. Unless you are 100% sure that it's a killer deal. If you do see something hat jumps out at you don't hesitate to buy it. When I was just getting started I didn't know a whole lot about the prices and values of most epics, but I did know that when I saw a Krol Blade for 150g it was an awesome deal and I snapped it up and resold it for over 500g.

* How much gold to keep in reserve, how much to invest

In the beginning buy up every good deal you see, don't worry about having gold in reserve. As you start to accumulate gold however you will find that you cant spend it all because there are not enough good buys on AH to spend it on, at this point you will probably be buying items and mounts for your other chars, and spending gold on other things. Once you reach that point you should always keep at least several thousand gold on you’re AH char at all times, you never know when someone is going to list 100 nexus crystals for 199g a stack of 10. This is exactly what happened to me one day. I spent 1990g buying 100 nexus crystals that I assume were listed by some guild bank , and re-listed them for 59g a piece over several weeks, and turned that 1990g into 5900g ? quite a hefty profit.

SELLING

* Sell on Sunday

Sunday is by far the best day to sell. For some reason a lot of people do their AH shopping on Sunday. Maybe it's just because more people log-in on Sundays so more items get bought, but whatever it is Sundays are great for selling items. I always have a mailbox full of gold by Monday morning.

* Listing fees and durations

Always list items for 24 hours, the fee isn't that much more, it lets more people see the item, and it makes it so you only have to list the item once per day.

* Always use buyout

Always set a buyout. If you don't you will miss out on 99% of your sales. People want instant gratification, and also a buyout scares people into impulse buying because they feel that someone else could buyout the auction at any moment. With just bids and no buyout people know they have hours to think about it and often decide they don't really need to spend all that gold on that item today.

* Stack size

A lot of times I will buy up stackable items either in small stacks or 2 or 3 etc, or I will end up with stacks with like 17 or 18 items in them. This is not the best way to sell stackable items. I use the following guidelines:

o In general if you have enough to combine into a stack of 10 or 20 do that because it is a nice even number and people can easily figure out if the price is good.

o If you only have a few of the item (like 3 or 4) split them up and list them singly.

o Some items are needed in specific quantities for quests or tradeskills; these are the exceptions where it may be beneficial to list them in those quantities. An example is nexus crystals are generally required in quantities of 3 for most high level enchants. So if someone else has them listed for 50g singly, and you have 3 for 150g, odds are your stack of three will be purchased because someone probably needs 3, and its less clicking for them to buy your stack of 3.

* 7's 9's rule

I always list my items using 7's and 9's let me explain:

If the item usually sells for around 10g I list it with a min bid of 7g77s and a buyout of 9g 99s. Never list anything for 10g or 20g etc, always 9g99s, 19g 99s

Its only 1 s difference but it makes people feel like its 10g cheaper. It's the same principal as all those TV commercials that sell stuff for $19.95 It just sounds a lot cheaper than $20 even though its not really.

Sometimes if the item is worth only 15g, but there is no competition in AH at the time I'll list it for 17g 77s / 19g 99s. People see 17g and think 17 is about the same as 15, and 19g is only 2 more gold I really want it so I'm just going to buy it. They just paid 20g for a 15g item that's 33% markup. They probably wouldn't have bought the item had you listed it for 20g.

Granted if you had listed the same item for 13g/14g99s they defiantly would buy it, but that is a judgment call you will have to make on an item to item basis based on how much competition there is, how much you paid for it, and how badly you need to sell it (because listing fee is high or whatever) personally I do not like to put myself in situations where I feel pressure to sell an item, and the best way to avoid that is to stay away from the higher level items whose demand you are unsure about.

* Undercutting minimum bids

When most people search specifically for an item they sort the results based on lowest price first. The price is not determined by the buyout price but rather the minimum bid. So sometimes it makes sense to undercut the competitions minimum bid, but not necessarily their buyout. This will ensure that your item is at the top of the list and the first thing they see when they sort their results by lowest price. Be careful though never set your minimum bid below the minimum price you can sell the item for or you could loose money if someone bids on the item and the auction ends with that bid.

**How to start with no money at level 1 **

Use searches that will find lower priced items to buy

People ask me "what if i don't have any money to start?" Well I say I started with about 1 gold. You should be able to start with even less. So after telling someone this ... I started another char lvl 1 with 0 gold just to see how difficult it would be, I killed a few mobs on my way to orgimar, leveled to lvl 3, sold all the stuff I had collected and had 3 silver total. So now what can I get for 3 silver and turn a profit ?!?

I did a couple scans and then did a search for:

and ended up with this result:

Bam I bought up the 3 lesser mystics (that was a stack of 3, i accidentally chopped the 3 off), split them up and sold them each for 24s.

Now I was sitting at 72s, almost a whole gold at level 3 within an hour or two of creating the char.

Later I did:

Buyouts with percent less 80% and minimum profit 20silver

which yielded the following results:

As you can see there are several items here which you can buy for a few silver and make

a hefty profit, especially the heart ring which is a level 18 ring with +5sta. A very nice twink item which will sell very well for 1g99s leaving you with a quick 1g79s profit.

So if I bought that ring and that cloak, I spend 27s, that puts me down to 45s, and I sell the two items for a total of 2g50s, I am now sitting at just under 3 gold. !!!!!

Keep in mind I’m only lvl 3 and has gone from 1 silver to 3 gold in 3 quick transactions

that is impressive!

You can change the numbers till you find something, try lowering the minimum profit, or try lowering the percent less numbers a little until you find something that looks good.

Important thoughts:

Auctioneer is in no way definitive or perfect at what it does!

It is simply a tool to HELP you sort through the 1,000's of auctions in the auction house. If you trust the scan results of auctioneer 100 % and buy up everything that it says is too cheep, you will loose money. The key is to use common sense to narrow those choices down to make smart purchases. I have had several people read this guide, run two or three auctioneer scans in a row and then proceed to buy up everything it tells them to. Guess what? they lost some gold!

Run lots of scans, and use some common sense in what you purchase. In the following sections I will try to give you a run down of what type of items I look for. As a rule of thumb just think about the item like this is it rare? does it have awesome stats for the classes that can use it?

No one is going to want a plate item with intelligence on it on the horde side, and conversely no one will want chain items with intelligence on it on the alliance side. Or I look at daggers and think rogues want agility or + attack power, so those are the daggers I buy. Caster gear with +int, + sta at lower levels, and + spell damage at higher levels. You get the idea.

In the beginning start small, and use caution till you get a feel for the market.

Rare blues - these are the blues that only drop in one instance, and are not world drops, there are only a handful of them.

These are the big ones that I have on my list right now I will update this list as I find more:

Cross-faction patterns/items

There are several patterns or items that are only available to either alliance or horde. These can be purchased at vendors and if you can get them to the other faction AH you can mark them up hundreds of percent.

For example an alliance only pattern that costs around 50silver and sells very well horde side for 50gold + on my server is

* Pattern: Red Whelp Gloves

* To get a hold of this item you will either need to have a friend with an account on the other faction, or a second account yourself. Have the friend, or on your other account buy the item and list it for 1s or something in a neutral AH, then buy it and list it in your factions AH for whatever you want.

This is one of the better items I have found because the Gloves that it makes are highly desirable 10-19 BG Twink items.

Again I will update this List as I find more items worth doing this with.

Rare Tradeskill goods:

These are hard to come by tradeskill goods that usually are not on the AH much or are very expensive because they come from raid zones/bosses. They are defiantly worth putting on your shopping list and keeping an eye on, especially once your get a good stash of gold, or if you have a lvl 60 char that can use them, or items made from them.

Rare Tradeskill Patterns

There are some rare tradeskill patterns that you should keep an eye out for, prices on them might vary by server but they will sell for a lot regardless. I found a Formula: Enchant Chest - Greater Stats for 5g once, and a Enchant Shield - Lesser Block for 1g. I sold the first for 500g, and the other for over 100g. So just keep your eyes out for a obviously cheep price on any of these. *Update* I picked up the following recently: felcloth bag for 100g, flarecore wraps for 150g. I sold the first for 499g, and the second for 399g.

Items with no listing fee

Some items have NO listing fee, enchanting supplies are a good example. Dusts, Essences, and Shards have absolutely no listing fee, which is good because it means you can re-list them over and over and not loose money. These are GREAT items for people who are just starting in their gold earning career because you can start with the lower lvl ones which are cheep and you can re-list them without loosing any money. Also you can list them for only slightly more than you paid because you don't have to worry about fees.

One word of advice about buying enchanting supplies is to buy on the weekends or when you notice a large amount of them in AH, and then sell in the middle of the week when supplies are dwindling.

TWINK ITEMS

Twinks are a huge source of money for me, a twink for those of you that don't know is generally a lvl 19, 29, or 39 char (top of each battlegrounds level bracket) that is decked out in the best blues/purples that money can buy or can be obtained through instances or quests. And they generally have lvl 60 enchants on every slot. They are usually funded by their lvl 60 mains, and their only goal is to be the most decked out badass person in the battlegrounds so that they can dominate. They generally stay at that level for months or indefinitely just to dominate that bracket. Many people have one of each of the 3 levels for each bracket.

Once you start making gold you will be able to make twinks if you choose, however the reason we are talking about them now is because they will buy certain gear from you for ridiculous prices. I know a lot of other guides say no lvl 19 will pay 200g for a lvl 19 blue. But that is just in fact UNTRUE. Lvl 19's repeatedly pay 50-200g for lvl 19 blues. There is a list of these items to look for below, but let me just provide you with one specific example. For example I love when I find an Assassin's Blade

For like 5g in AH (happens quite a bit) they sell for 150g-200g on my server. And they DO sell. You might have to re-list it 5 or 10 times, but the re-listing fee is like 5s so no big deal. That is an extreme example because it is an especially rare item which comes from only 1 instance. However many of the items below sell for 40g or 50g regularly.

Some lvl 10-19 greens sell for 5g or even 10g+ simply because they are the best items you can get for those slots period(AH, Instances, Quests or otherwise) here are a couple examples.

Red Whelp Gloves <- On horde side they are very valuable, because it's an alliance only pattern LVL 10-19 rings: Ring of the eagle, monkey, bear, agi, eluding, blood ring, demon band, ring of the moon, etc good low level rings always seem to sell well, I think it is because lower levels always seem to have empty ring slots to fill because they seem to drop less than regular armor. Also because for twinking they are generally better than the blue instance dropped or quest rings for some classes. Here are a couple of searches I run without using auctioneer. I just use the standard AH search box: 1) lvl 2 - 19 rare all categories. Sort lowest price first Emitting level 1 skips over all tradskill items and leaves us only with blue weapons, and armor below lvl 19. Since it is sorted lowest price first, we can immediately see if there are any items listed very cheaply. Her is an example I ran today to show you: as you can see I entered 2 and 19 in the lvl box, selected rare from the rarity box, clicked search, and finally clicked current bit to sort it by price. Keller's girdle is listed for way way too low, it actually sells for closer to 20g, and I will buy it and re-list it at 19g for a great profit! 2) Lvl 1 - 19 rings of any quality sorted by price. Same idea here, easy way to find good twink rings. 3) lvl 1 - 19 daggers sorted by price. Look for cheep of agi, power, monkey daggers. Saves you the time of searching for them one by one! 4) lvl 1-19 one hand swords. I usually buy of the tiger, monkey, agi, and power. Especially the lvl 19 decapitating swords, they usually sell for 3 or 4 gold. **8/17 Update - Upcoming expansion** The upcoming expansion will allow for paladins on the horde side, and shamans on the alliance side. What does this mean? 1) lots of people will make new characters: This will create a huge demand for twink items when the patch comes out. Chain gear for the new paladins on horde side, and leather items for the new shamans on alliance side. Also lvl 40+ plate for the pallies, and 40+ chain for the shamans to a lesser extent. The real demand will be for lvl 1-40 gear though. 2) people will also want to level trade skills (especially first aid) for these new characters, so we may see an increase in demand and price for cloth, and other tradeskill supplies. In addition the new expansion will bring a NEW TRADESKILL: Jewelcrafting ! I can only speculate at this point, but I have a strong feeling that the prices of Gems and Metals will skyrocket, especially the high end ones. I am personally going to start thinking about some long term investment in gems, and I am guessing that they might have finally found a use for those now almost useless Pristine Black Diamonds, and Black Diamonds. As well as some azerothian diamonds, blue sapphires, huge emeralds, rubies, large opals, ETC, cant hurt to pick up any that you see for cheap, you can always sell them for what you paid. I’m going to pick up a bag full of stuff and stick it in the bank. Might pay off it Might not. /shrug. In addition with the increase of the level cap to level 70 in the Burning Crusade, level 60 items will loose much of their value. I would not recommend buying any lvl 60 gear at the moment, and the same goes for lvl 60 tradeskill materials. Lava Cores, Fiery Cores, and the like will *probably* drop in value significantly. I have unloaded all of my high end gear and tradskill mats on AH for the time being. **3/07 Update - Results from above observation** Well I followed my advice and bought up many many stacks of gems prior to the expansion. I bought 8 stacks of [azerothian diamonds] for an average price of 3.7 gold each. or 592g total. I have just finished selling them all off for between 19.99 and 24.99 a PIECE. With an average of 22.05 gold each, that’s around 3,520 gold.... or a profit of about 3,000g! And that’s just from azerothian diamonds. I did the same with blue sapphires, huge emeralds, large opals, and star rubies. I had around a dozen stacks of each, and overall made well over 10,000 in profits from my gem sales. I hope some of you took my advice and invested in gems before BC, if so drop me a line and let me know how well you fared! I personally did not invest in cloth too heavily as the profit margin for the amount of bank space it took up was not worth it to me, however cloth prices did go up, and those of you who did invest in lots of cloth before BC probably did well. Also, as I predicted lvl 60 ish epics, blues, and tradeskill items all hit rock bottom, moltencore, and AQ trade skill mats are almost worthless now, and I'm glad I dumped all mine before the expansion! Other thoughts: You will find that over time you will get better and better at knowing what to buy and how to sell, it is just like anything else it takes practice. This guide gives you a big head start but there is still plenty to learn, different items will sell better or for different amounts depending on your server, the economies between new and old , high and low pop servers varies greatly. Once you have a good feel for the local economy on your server you will begin to make wiser choices and make more gold

World of Warcraft Escort Quest Guide

Escort missions are typically some of the hardest non-elite or non-instance quests in World of Warcraft. Although most of these quests are best handled with at least two players, there are ways to complete them on your own. Here are some tips for successfully completing escort quests in World of Warcraft that you won’t be able to find in any World of Warcraft guides.

If you are adventuring in Azeroth and come across an NPC who needs to be escorted back to the safety of a nearby town, do not accept the quest immediately. Most escort quests will begin as soon as you click accept, often making it extremely difficult to complete.
Before you start an escort quest, ensure the surrounding area is free of enemies. If there are any nearby enemies, kill them before you begin the quest. This should typically be done as quickly as possible, as you do not want the mobs to respawn in the middle of the quest.
Make sure to refresh any buffs, such as Mark of the Wild, Ice Shield or Windfury Weapon.
If you have any scrolls or portions that can be used to give yourself additional buffs, use them.
Before accepting the quest ensure that your character’s health and mana are fully recharged. Likewise, if you have any abilities or spells with cooldown timers that are close to refreshing, wait until those abilities become available.
Once you begin the quest, make sure to stay near the NPC; if you fall too far behind or get too far ahead, you will more than likely automatically fail the quest. Most World of Warcraft guides will tell you that you need to stay as close as possible to the NPC; this is not true. A slight margin of error is built into the quests and works in your favor.
Escort Quests typically work in stages; at predetermined points along the path that the NPC walks you will be attacked by a group of enemies. This is something the World of Warcraft guides simply don’t tell you.
If and when you are attacked, make sure to watch and see what the NPC is doing: if the NPC is attacking an enemy, try and focus your efforts on that enemy. If the NPC you need to escort is not fighting back, make sure to focus your attacks on any enemies who are striking the NPC.
Don’t worry about needing to guide the NPC.In World of Warcraft the NPCs will more often than not find their way to wherever it is they need to get to.
After you kill a group of enemies, try and heal yourself as quickly as possible. If you can, eat food and drink water while the NPC continues on his path. Don’t let them get too far away, as you’ll fail the quest; but give yourself enough time to get your health and mana back to at least 80%. The World of Warcraft guides make it seem as though staying directly on top of the NPC is paramount; this is simply not the case.
Continue this method for each group you encounter. The groups of enemies do typically get harder as you progress along the escort path. You should save any potions or special abilities with long cooldowns for the last group of enemies. A boss type character will sometimes be in the final group and will be harder to kill than most.
You will fail an Escort quest if you die, if the NPC dies or if you get very far away from the NPC. If this happens, and the quest is marked as “failed” in your log, you’ll need to abandon the quest and go back to where you first found the NPC to try again. If this happens, be sure to remember where the quest began, following maps that can be found in World of Warcraft guides or using a third-party mod that allows you to denote the map.

Hunter Farming

Yes this is how I make 120 gold an hour on my friends hunter.

The secret is feign death and RFK.

When you enter RFK you have to go all the way to Overlord Ramtusk. This is simple by just walking and using feign death once in a while when u get adds. Now when you get to overlord there will be around 3-4 mobs spaced out in this area, I recommend killing them. After they are dead you will see Overlord standing in one spot with 2 bodygaurds. Each body gaurd has a 50% chance of dropping an Armor Peircer. Armor Peircers sell for 48 silver to a vendor. All you do is pull the two body gaurds away from overlord a distance, and of course it WILL pull orverlord, but do not kill overlord, I repeat do NOT kill overlord. Kill the two body gaurds, when the two are dead, use FEIGN DEATH. Wham overlord will run back to his spot and the two body gaurds will respawn, rinse and repeat. I usually keep my ammo pouch behind, and replace it with 14 slot bag, I fill up all my bags with these peircers, *takes around an hour*, then hearth to Camp T. For alliance, hearth to Terramore I think. Anyways I hope this is a great money making tutorial, that I can post with out getting leaked, since this is a pay site and all :-)

Easy get money, lvl 30+ (horde only)

This is a guide to earn money fast and easy in Shadowprey Village, Desolace (horde only).

Here goes:

Go to Shadowprey Village in Desolace.

Talk to Jinar’Zillen standing close to the flightmaster.

He has a repeatable quest called ‘Fish In A Bucket’, where you

have to gather Shellfish in some traps/cages in the water.

The cages opens like chests and can have all kinds of things inside them, but mostly 1-4 shellfish, grey items or a mob(!). These can be hard at level 30, so if one spawns, hurry to the guards on land or vanish.

Easy cage/trap spawn points (if you do not feel like swimming far):

Red dots = cages/traps

Green dot = Jinar’Zillen

Jinar’Zillen wants 5 shellfish for 55s and a Bloodbelly Fish.

Helpful tips:

Warlocks: Unending breath

Druid: Aquatic form

Other classes: Underwater breathing potions (made by Alchemists)

Remember to empty the cages completely before swimming to the next one. If you do not take all the loot they will not respawn with new goodies.

This brings in about 1-10g(no underwater breathing)/1-15g(with underwater breathing) per hour depending on your luck.

Dusty Tome Farming

Dire Maul - West (best to use south entrance to the west side).

In every instance made in all of Dire maul there is a chest spawn & usually a Dusty Tome spawn. In west, there are four spots that the chest spawns, two of which can be gotten very quickly & with few mobs. There are also two Dusty Tome spawn locations (that I know), but only 1 location is easy to get to....just so happens it is about 3 feet from one of the chest locations.

In each chest there is a lvl50-55 green, some are perdy good, also some change & 1 in about every 25-50 chests have a blue BOE usually worth 60-100g. All the greens dc into Greater eterenal essence & illusion dust, Or you can vendor most items for about 3-5g a piece or sell on the AH. The Dusty Tomes are where the real money is though....90% of the tomes will give you a junk book "nat pagles extreme fishing..." and pocket lint - the rest of the time you will get one of any of the blue class books (each sell in AH from 45g-90g) and an equal chance to get Furor's Compendium of Demonslaying (Warriors epic book) = anywhere from 1500g to 2400g. I have found several now and all sold within a few hours on AH for 2000g

Now the strat... You enter west on south side. The tome & chest spawn location is in the initial room you come into, before you get to Shen'dralar Ancient. As you are looking at the room from the portal, the chest will be across the room on left side (there is another spawn location on the right side - but after you do this a while, you will see it is more profitable to only look for the left side one).

If you use an Ornate spyglass you can position yourself on a corner right next to the instance portal (bout 15ft from it) and look down to the south west corner with the chest & tome. (for the first while you will want to run down and make sure nothing spawns till you know exactly where to look). If you dont see the chest or tome, run out the instance and reset it...round trip on an empty instance is about 30seconds or less. IF the chest spawns in that spot(bout 25% of the instances) there will be 3 to 4 tree creeps guarding it. The easiest way to get to them is to have a rogue position behind the chest ready to take it & have another class move up and agro the three trees then turn & run out the instance while the rogue loots. Once you get used to it, you can loot and be back to reset in under 2min.

Hunters can solo this by using Eyes of the beast & taking the agro to the other side of the instance, then dismiss their pet, grab the loot & move to a safe spot to feign death.

DM West is easy enough to move around once you learn your agro range and stay close to the south wall.

Dire Maul West Solo Farming

The spot you are going to be farming at is the ramp leading down to tendris warpwood(the big tree guy). There is a ledge on each side of this ramp. The mobs you want to target are the groups of trees and the round blue caster things. You can do the larger patrolling trees but they do punt you back so if u screw up youll get punted to the bottom and die. Simply pull a group back to the ramp then hop on either ledge on the side of the ramp near the top. They will run all the way down to the bottom then back up the ledge. If you hop to the middle they will go back to the bottom again then come after you. Then when they start getting near hop to the other ledge. During this time just start casting the second you hop on or off a ledge. Just keep repeating this till the group is dead. One thing to note though is that the tree groups have a healer called a guardian i believe who is colored purple. Do not attack him first. If you attack the regular ones a bit the healer will then begin to heal him but stays locked on him. After the first heal u can then down the healer then down everything else. It takes a bit to get used to but once u have it down its cake. Just gotta have patience with the pulls in between the patrols. Each mob drops good silver and u get greens and grey weapons a lot but the big money is with the librams.of focus that drop in here. Clearing that whole room gives you a decent chance of getting one and it only takes about 30-45 mins to clear the place. These things sell for 3-400g and they go quick.

WoW Bloodvine Farming

My hunter collecting Bloodvine and voodoo dolls from Zul'gurub(easily doable naked).

I collect a total of 7 voodoo piles and how ever many herbs i find. This particular run i got 5 different voodoo dolls(10-15g) and 3 bloodvine(20-25g).

My record to this day is 6 bloodvine from one run :). Of course the prices depend on the server, my server is rather low i'd say, and they sell pretty fast.

It is Possible to solo this, if you have a AFK Friend or something to keep you in raid, like this!

Summon pet, use Eyes of the beast, ( pet NEED Dash/dive ) go towards the Enemys, Dash with pet!

Run Quickly Away, pulling all mobs from the "Herb" you want, and then, You can Easily Pick the Herb without much problem, The longer you come into the instance, the harder, i've Even Solod the Vodoo thingy ( the one BEFORE Raptor boss (The room before him) So its not that hard)

You get into combat, so you need to run away to a safe spot and Feign Death when you get it. Failed? then Ress pet, And try again, And keep doing this until you get it. Watch out for : Bats, They are fast, Berserkers, They are even faster. thats all for today!

If you arent saved to the instance you can simply zone out leave party and get invited by someone else, if your saved, zone out wait 15 min and zone back in. The instance is reset if you see the Orange text once you enter.

Tailoring leveling guide

This guide will show you how to get your tailoring skill up from 0 to 375. The guide will use recipes available at a trainer as much as possible. See the preparation section for some exceptions.

This guide only uses recipes that require cloth and vendor-bought material (thread, dye). The only exceptions are the vendor bought recipes to get to 375 which require rugged leather, arcane dust and Netherweb Spider Silk. Rugged Leather is acquired through skinning, Arcane Dust comes from disenchanting green items from Outland, and Netherweb Spider Silk drops from spiders in Outland. Of course, you can buy these from the Auction House as well.

This guide assumes everything you make is sold to a vendor. If you have an enchanter alt, you can send the green items you make to her for disenchanting, however this guide does not combine leveling enchanting and tailoring. This guide also doesn't tell you how to make money with tailoring.

This guide does not tell you how to get all the different recipes from quests, vendors or drops. What you do once you hit 375 is entirely up to you.

This guide is primarily aimed at those who want to switch profession at high level.

The only trainer you need is the Grand Master Tailor in either Honor Hold or Thrallmar. She teaches all five levels of tailoring, and sells every thread and dye required.

Preparation

The recipes used require vendor bought components such as threads and dye. These cost gold. To learn recipes from a trainer also costs gold. The amount of gold needed is approximately 150 gold if you farm all of the cloth. If you want to buy everything you need from the auction house, expect to spend upwards to 250 gold to get tailoring to 300 and an additional 1200 to 1500 gold to get your skill up to 375. This does not include gold for recipes from vendors or the auction house.

You are going to need a lot of linen and wool cloth, huge amounts of silk, mageweave and runecloth and an insane amount of netherweave cloth. Below is a table that shows the amount of cloth needed. The minimum amount column shows the minimum amount needed if you would get a skill point every time you make something. However, at some point a recipe will be yellow or even green when you make something, so you won't always get a skill point. The estimated amount column deals with this, so try to get the estimated amount of cloth. If you are buying all the cloth you need from the auction house, get the minimum amount and only buy more when needed.

This guide uses trainer-available recipes, because they are the easiest to get. However, sometimes vendor-bought or dropped recipes are needed or simply cheaper to use, so there are some exceptions. Below is a table with those exceptions. Check the Auction House for the dropped recipes. The vendor for the Imbued Netherweave Robe and Tunic recipes belongs to the Scryer faction. However, the recipes are not BoP, so ask a guild member or friend to buy them for you if you are Aldor. You can also buy the recipes if you haven't made a choice yet and are still neutral to both.

Getting from 1 to 50

Getting from 1 to 50 seems easy enough. Making a bolt of linen cloth greys out at 50, so it looks like this is the easiest way to get to 50. However, since making a bolt of linen cloth becomes yellow at 25 and green at 37, you will most likely make much more bolts than needed to get from 50 and further.

Getting from 50 and further requires at least 75 bolts of linen cloth, so lets make those first and set those aside. If you haven't reached 50 yet, make a bolt of linen cloth and then a linen belt. The linen belt will give a skill point. Repeat this until 50.

Once you hit 50, talk to the appropriate trainer to become Journeyman Tailor. You have to be level 10 to become Journeyman Tailor.

Getting from 50 to 125

Use the bolts of linen cloth set aside earlier to make linen bags to get from 50 to 75.

There are two other recipes that can be used to get from 50 to 75: the heavy linen gloves and the reinforced linen cape. These recipes are cheaper in components than the linen bag, but since the bag sells for more silver at a vendor (2 silver for the bag versus 29 copper for the gloves and 67 copper for the cape) and you have to make a lot of bolts to get to 50 anyway, I decided to go for the linen bag. So you can recoup a bit more of the money you lose wasting material.

At 75, you can train to make bolt of woolen cloth. Bolt of woolen cloth grays out at 105. To get from 105 to 125, you need at least 50 bolts of woolen cloth, so lets make those and see how far we get.

If you haven't reached 105, make 1 bolt of woolen cloth and then make a woolen cape until you do reach 105.

Now use the 50 bolts of woolen cloth made earlier and make gray woolen shirts until 115, and double-stitched woolen shoulders to get from 115 to 125.

Once you hit 125, talk to the appropriate trainer to become Expert Tailor. You have to be level 20 to become Expert Tailor.

Getting from 125 to 200

At 125, you can make bolt of silk cloth, which grays out at 145. Since you're going to need at least 175 bolts of silk cloth for your skill up recipes, you will most likely reach 145 with that, so lets make those bolts of silk cloth.

Make azure silk hoods to get from 145 to 160, silk headbands to get from 160 to 170, and formal white shirts to get from 170 to 175.

At 175, you can make bolt of mageweave which grays out at 185. Later on, you're going to need at least 90 bolts of mageweave, so lets make those bolts. This should get you to 185 easily.

Now back to silk. Make Crimson Silk Vests to get from 185 to 200.

Once you hit 200, talk to the appropriate trainer to become Artisan Tailor. You have to be level 35 to become Artisan Tailor.

Getting from 200 to 275

First, make some more crimson silk vests to get from 200 to 210, and crimson silk pantaloons to get to 215.

Make orange mageweave shirts to get 225.

Make black mageweave gloves to get from 225 to 235 and black mageweave shoulders to get from 235 to 250.

At 250, you can make bolts of runecloth, which grays out at 260. Make bolts of runecloth until you reach 260 skill and use those to make runecloth belts. The runecloth belt recipe becomes yellow at 270, so you should be able to reach 275 using this recipe.

Once you hit 275, talk to the appropriate trainer to become Master Tailor. You have to be level 50 to become Master Tailor.

Getting from 275 to 375

Make runecloth bags to get to 280 (you can opt by start doing runecloth gloves since 275 if you value rugged leather lesser than runecloth). Make runecloth gloves to get to 300.

At 300, you can make Bolt of Netherweave, which becomes gray at 325. You are going to need at least 430 Bolts of Netherweave to get to 360, so make those. This should get you to 325 just fine.

At 325, you can make Bolt of Imbued Netherweave, which becomes gray at 340. You are going to need at least 90 Bolts of Imbued Netherweave to eventually get to 375, so make those. If you are not at 340, make some more Bolts of Imbued Netherweave until you are. The bolts are needed in most high-level tailoring recipes, so they are not wasted. However, if you do not want to make more bolts than needed for this guide, make Netherweave Boots for those last points to 340 instead.

Make Netherweave Robes to get to 350, and Netherweave Tunics to get to 360.

Make Imbued Netherweave Robes or Imbued Netherweave Tunics to get to 375.

Congratulations, you now have 375 skill in tailoring.

A couple nice money savers:

It could be much cheaper to craft Bolt of Soulcloth from 345 to 355. And use those bolts to craft Soulcloth Gloves later on. It depends on prices of your server and how far is your guild in Karazhan.
At 350, make your first mooncloth/spellcloth/shadowcloth -- good chance for 3 "free" bumps. (free 'cause you know you're going to do it anyway ;))

First Aid Skill Up Guide

First aid guide -- Skill up

If you dont have used First Aid yet - then get on with it - because it can heal 2000 HP over 8 sec.

1. Go to Westfall and kill Defias of all kind at Moonbroke and loot all the Linen Cloth. You need 120 - 130 Linen Cloth.

2. Go inside Dead mines (just beside Moonbroke) and kill all inside, and loot all the Wool. You need 100 Wool.

Get the recipe Linen Bandage at First Aid Trainer.

Use your Linen Cloth to get you your skill to 40.

Get the recipe Heavy Linen Bandage at First Aid Trainer.

Use the rest of Linen Cloth to get your skill to 80.

Get the recipe Wool Bandage at First Aid Trainer.

Use your Wool to get you your skill to 115.

Get the recipe Heavy Wool Bandage at First Aid Trainer.

Use rest of Wool to get you your skill to 150.

3. Go to Alterac Mountains and kill Crushridge Mauler (they have nice drop percent) and loot all the Silk cloth.

You need 100 Silk Cloth.

Get the recipe Silk Bandage at First Aid Trainer.

Use your Silk Cloth to get you your skill to 180.

Get the recipe Heavy Silk Bandage at First Aid Trainer.

Use your Silk Cloth to get you your skill to 225.

4. Go to Dustwallow Marsh and find the First Aid Trainer there and do the quest.

(You have to have 225 in First aid and be lvl 40+)

He give you some bandage, you have to use them on the soldiers. The TRICK is ..

Click on a soldier, and start bandage him. At soon as the bandaging begin, turn round and find the next soldier, and click on him.

When your are finished bandage the first, run to the one you clicked on and start bandage him, and turn find the next and so on.

When finished with the quest the first aid trainer give you Mageweave Bandage and Heavy Mageweave Bandage.

5. Go to Feralas and kill all the Woodpaw and loot the Mageweave silk. You need 100 Mageweave silk.

Use your Mageweave silk to get you your skill to 250.

6. Go to Eastern Plaguelands and farm runecloth - you just all you need.

Use your runecloth to get you your skill to 290. (or is it only 280?)

Defense and Mitigation, how it all works?

Basic Concept:

The basic concept of tanking consists of three parts, maintaining the aggro, mitigating the damage and staying alive. There are three classes considered to be tanking class, the Warrior, the Paladin and the Druid. Though any class has some form to maintain aggro, mitigate damage and staying alive, only Warriors, Paladins and Druids have skills and talents specific for this purpose, as well as items made for them. This guide only talks about Warriors, Paladins and Druids.

Maintaining Aggro:

One aspect of tanking is making sure the mobs attack you, not the other people in your group, since you're made to take the hits where the rest is not. Mitigating your damage is useless if you're not the one getting the damage, and you'll more likely to survive a hit than the other people in your group.

The threat caused by Warriors and Druids scales with stats such as Strenth, Agility and Attack Power. The threat caused by Paladins scales with Spell Damage.

Mitigating Damage:

Another aspect of tanking is minimizing the damage you'll be receiving. It's completely useless to keep the aggro from the clothwearers, if you take as much damage as them. Your healers cannot keep you alive, unless you make sure to take the minimum amount of damage possible. Damage mitigation can be subdivided in two groups.

Damage Reduction means reducing the damage you'll receive when you get hit. The most basic form of damage reduction is Armor. The higher your armor value, the less damage you will take. A Warrior's Defensive Stance provides 10% Damage Reduction. A Paladin's Righteous Fury provides up to 6% Damage Reduction based on talents. These apply after each other. If you have a 60% Damage Reduction from Armor, then Defensive Stance only reduces 10% of the remaining 40% for a total of 64% Damage Reduction. Blessing of Sanctuary provides a flat Damage Reduction (80 at level 70), but before Damage Reduction from Armor and Stance is taken into account, so that Warrior with 64% Damage Reduction would only receive 28.8 less damage thanks to Blessing of Sanctuary. Block Value provices a flat Damage Reduction whenever you Block an attack, after Damage Reduction from Armor and Stance is taken into account.

Damage Avoidance means avoiding a source of damage altogether. Your Miss, Dodge and Parry chance avoid getting damaged altogether. Your Block chance avoids receiving Critical Hits and Crushing Blows, since these are mutually exclusive. Though avoiding getting damaged altogether is a nice thing, it's ony a chance, and therefor unreliable. It's chancebased, and might or might not happen. It won't do you any good if it doesn't happen. Don't go through great lengths just to boost complete avoidance. It's a little different for Critical Hits and Crushing Blows. With the right talents and gear, these can be avoided completely by Warriors and Paladins, making it something you can rely on. By reducing the chance of Critical Hits and Crushing Blows to zero, you cannot get unlucky.

Staying Alive:

The more Damage Mitigation you have, the less your healers will have to heal you, but you will receive damage. No matter how low the damage you take is, if the healers don't have time to heal you, you will die regardless. Your heath bar is there for the sole purpose to give your healers time to heal you back up before you take the next hits. It does not reduce the damage you take or the healing you need in any way.

If you completely strife for the most health, while disregarding actual damage mitigation, you will take more damage than your healers can keep up with, and you will die. If you completely strife for the most mitigation, while disregarding your health, an unlucky string of hits will kill you.

Damage Reduction from Armor:

Against mobs up to lvl59, the Damage Reduction in % is:

100 * Armor / (Armor + (Moblvl * 85) + 400)

Against mobs of lvl60 and up, the Damage Reduction in % is:

100 * Armor / (Armor + (Moblvl * 467.5) - 22170)

Against lvl73 mobs (Bosses are considered level 73 for level 73 player characters):

100 * Armor / (Armor + 11957.5)

The Damage Reduction for Armor is capped to 75%. Any Armor in excess of that becomes useless. For lvl73 mobs, this is 35872.5.

The Attack Table:

When a mob or character physically attacks another mob or character, WoW determines the result with a single roll. It adds all possible values together, using the following attack table:

Miss

Dodge

Parry

Block

Critical Hit

Crushing Blow (mobs only)

Regular Hit

There are formulas that determine the a character or mob's chance to Miss, Dodge, Parry, Block, Critical Hit and Crushing Blow in %. Those are placed below each other on a line from 0 to 100%. If the total of those values is less than 100%, the remainer is filled up with Regular Hit. If the total of those values is more than 100%, everything beyond 100% falls off the bottom (first Crushing Blow, then Critical Hit, then Block, etc...).

Example 1: There is a 10% chance a mob will Miss a character, 15% the character will Dodge his attack, 20% the character will Parry his attack, 15% the character wil Block his attack, 5% he will Critically Hit the character and 15% he will place a Crushing Blow on the character. Those values count up to 80%, so the remaining 20% becomes a Regular Hit.

One check is made. A result of 0-10% becomes a Miss. 10-25% becomes a Dodge. 25-45% becomes a Parry. 45-60% becomes a Block. 60-65% becomes a Critical Hit. 65-80% becomes a Crushing Blow. 80-100% becomes a Regular Hit.

Example 2: The character mentioned in Example 1 is a Paladin. He casts Holy Shield, which raises his chance to Block an attack by 30% (for a total Block chance of 45%). The values now count up to 110%, so 10% from the lowest value (10% Crushing Blow) falls off. A result of 45-90% becomes a Block. 90-95% becomes a Critical Hit. 95-100% becomes a Crushing Blow. There is no space for Regular Hits.

Example 3: The character mentioned in Example 1 is a Warrior. He casts Shield Block, which raises his chance to Block an attack by 75% (for a total Block chance of 90%). The values now count up to 155%, so 55% from the lowest values (all 15% Crushing Blow, all 5% Critical Hit, 35% Block) falls off. A result of 45-100% becomes a Block. There is no space for Critical Hits, Crushing Blows or Regular Hits.

Here we look on Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar developed by Turbine. Since most people decided to check out this game earlier in the day, by the time I got there, I had a computer all to myself and plenty of people to answer my questions. Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar is the first massive multiplayer online game to feature the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This is not the Peter Jackson style. After talking with some of the people who worked on the game, it was obvious that a lot of care and effort was put into keeping everything true to the novels.

It's a tall order, creating a massively-multiplayer online game set in the best-known fantasy world ever created. You've got to get the places right, the languages right, the characters right, and the history right, which must contained in account. And at the same time, you've got to make a game that's fun to play and that fits with its famous source material. The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar delivers on both. Once you delve into its polished mixture of story, setting and game player, you may not find anything new, but you're going to find a lot of old that you'll really like.

Some people was dieing in Beta test, played it and found it was very boring and somewhat lackluster which does not grip you even though it throws you in the deep end straight away. It may well get better in the long run and yes its only beta but personally I would of thought most folk would be somewhat disappointed within the first 10 minutes and leave never to return.

The game, LOTRO quest, itself is set during the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Put people in the camp of Tolkien dorks that, at least at the outset, considered this a bad idea. For the game to last past a few hours of story and exploration, it's got to be fun to play. And here developer Turbine sensibly decided that if it ain't broke, they shouldn't fix it. Like World of Warcraft, LOTRO's game mechanics are solidly designed, easy to learn, and very polished. The game features seven classes with roles so well-understood that they are even identified as "buffer," "crowd control" and "tank" on the character-creation screen (or at least they were during the beta test.)

Lord of the Rings Mithril Miniatures

Mithril was founded in 1987 and has been dedicated since then to the creation of miniature figures, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's world of Middle-earth as portrayed in his famous works The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It has been our intention to faithfully recreate the characters from these works and imbue the miniatures as much as possible with the atmosphere and feel of Middle-earth. To this end Much painstaking research has gone into this range, both in costume and character appearance, so as to make and retain an authentic and consistent feel to the figures and above all to remain true to Tolkien's original vision of his strange and magical world.

The Mithril Classics series represent key personalities and generic types selected from Mithrills huge range of over 500 Middle-earths subjects. While most releases are available for a limited time only and are then withdrawn from production, the Classics series is the core range which is continuously produced, and means that the most important figures like Gandalf, Bilbo and Aragorn are always available to the collector.

The "M" series and the "Classics" series are supplied undercoated ready to paint. The "LR" series are supplied without undercoat to allow the finishing and assembling the figure to be completed before undercoating.

Our Review

We received a package with several Mithril Miniatures of various shapes and sizes. The Miniatures come neatly packed with instructions for the more complex figures. The figures are very detailed and of great quality. They come unpainted and unassembled and for many Mithril fans that's the great attraction and challenge: to assemble and paint the miniatures as beautifully as possible. If you have the time for it, it's a great hobby in which your skills will grow gradually. A lot of Mithril fans have perfected their skills in the years and proudly show their work on the internet. We definitely recommend it to any person who has the time to invest in this great hobby.

Is Pre-Written Lore a Blessing or Curse?

Many MMOs in today’s market are rich in creative lore. They use countless races, creatures, and people that help make the land rich in story. The creation of the lore is flexible and has always allowed for more story adaptations to be added later, but Lord of the Rings Online comes with a pre-written lore and guidelines that the developers must follow in order to stay true to the Tolkien story. Will this help them over the long term by providing a rich land of lore already written, or will this prove to be limiting in what type of content we could see in the future?

Everquest was the first MMORPG I ever tried. When I logged in for the first time I was greeted by a world rich in lore, diverse races, creatures, lands, and characters. Over the many years I spent in Norrath, I saw the world go through many changes that often times added or altered the story-line. This may not be the case for LOTRO. It has a pre-written story line that limits how far the developers can alter the world, but to their credit they have created a unique story-line integrating the player into Middle-Earth without actually altering the original Tolkien story. The epic story lines are a creative approach to dealing with the limitations of lore and it allows the player to become part of the story without changing the original lore of the books. This is one of the most creative aspects of LOTRO and one the developers deserve credit for approaching creatively.

How will pre-written lore affect the characters of the world? In Everquest there were many dragons that were the source of countless raid beatings. Dragons are a common theme in many fantasy MMOs, but were not a common theme to Tolkien’s story-line and it is safe to assume we won’t be seeing a lot of them as we do in other MMOs. Will this type of limitation prove to be a burden for the developers of Turbine in the long run? Perhaps, but thus far they have shown a great degree of creativity in integrating content to fit the Lord of the Rings lore. This may prove to limit certain creatures such as dragons or gods from making an appearance as they did in Everquest, but a creative approach can solve many problems and Turbine has proven to be very resourceful in that area.

What will happen when Frodo reaches Mount Doom? Where will we go from there? Those are two great questions I don’t have an answer to, but one thing is for sure and we are likely years from having to find out. There are plenty of areas left on the Middle Earth map that have yet to be developed. The developers have a ton of content possibilities sitting right in front of them. We have the benefit of visiting areas the fellowship never set foot in and that also provides the developers with additional leeway when it comes to lore creation for an area. Some places might have been mentioned in the book, but never really emphasized. This will allow the developers to maybe bend the lore just a little bit and provide us with a few things other MMOs have that don’t fit into the Lord of the Rings lore.

The question still remains though. What happens at the end of this journey? When Frodo destroys the one ring in the fires of Mount Doom, what happens next? Will the developers be allowed to create additional content after the war is over? That is indeed a possibility. After Aragorn returned to Gondor he fought for the reunification of the kingdoms and over the next several years fought many battles to do so. Once the ring has been destroyed the developers could very well have us aiding in the reunification of the kingdoms. This could provide a slew of new content even more flexible than the old. The one thing that is for certain is that there is no shortage of content.

There have been many concerns about the limitation of lore, but I feel the lore won’t be a problem. The limitation is minimal, and the continuation of the story could go on longer than our life times. The developers at Turbine are creative and resourceful and they have a lot more to work with than most people realize. With the current Lord of the Rings lore and the post war of the ring story potential, we will have no shortage of new and potentially creative content in the future. Is pre-written lore a blessing or a curse? With the right approach, it is most certainly a blessing.
